Jagan Complains to Governor Abdul Nazeer
YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) president and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy met Governor Abdul Nazeer and submitted a complaint over alleged irregularities in the District Selection Committee (DSC) teacher recruitment process. He also brought to the Governor’s attention the alleged attack on YSRCP leaders and unemployed candidates during a peaceful protest at the Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh (SAAP) office on September 21, as well as the subsequent police action.
Speaking to the media after meeting the Governor, Jagan said he explained the concerns and doubts among unemployed youth regarding the DSC recruitment process. He said an independent investigation was necessary to restore confidence among students and job aspirants. Jagan demanded a CBI probe into the matter and called for the resignation of Education Minister Nara Lokesh.
Questions Raised Over DSC Recruitment
Jagan raised questions on four major aspects of the DSC recruitment process. He objected to keeping key responsibilities, including question paper preparation and examination-related activities, within the same system. He also questioned the role of outsourced staff in the recruitment process.
Jagan alleged that an employee named Naveen initially secured the top position in the merit list but was later removed from the list. He sought an explanation regarding the circumstances surrounding the change.
Questions Over Sports Quota Appointments
Jagan also raised several questions over teacher appointments under the sports quota. He alleged that Government Orders (GOs) No. 4 and 47 introduced a system through which candidates could be appointed to teacher posts without appearing for the regular DSC examination.
He sought clarification regarding the appointment of 372 candidates under the sports quota. Jagan also questioned why changes were subsequently made to the rules through GOs No. 23, 25 and 56.
Allegations Over Fake Sports Certificates
Jagan alleged that some candidates had secured teacher jobs by using fake or suspicious sports certificates. Referring to allegations concerning certificates related to sports such as judo and softball, he also raised questions about the role of certain sports associations.
He said the YSRCP had already brought several documents and pieces of evidence related to these allegations to the government’s attention.
Jagan Questions Police Response to Audio and Video Evidence
Jagan also questioned the police response to audio and video material that reportedly surfaced in connection with the DSC controversy.
He alleged that a phone number was visible in one of the conversations but that the person behind the number had not been identified and arrested. Jagan further alleged that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu made an incorrect statement in the Assembly by saying that the concerned person had been arrested.
Allegations Over September 21 Protest
Referring to the September 21 protest at the SAAP office, Jagan said the YSRCP had informed the authorities in advance about its plan to hold a peaceful protest over the DSC issue.
However, he alleged that the government did not allow the protest to proceed peacefully and instead organised a parallel protest, bringing TDP supporters to the location.
Alleged Attack on YSRCP Leaders and Unemployed Candidates
Jagan alleged that TDP workers attacked YSRCP leaders and unemployed candidates during the incident. He criticised the police for allegedly taking action against the protesters instead of those accused of carrying out the attack.
He questioned the registration of serious criminal cases against unemployed youth who were protesting for transparency in the recruitment process.
Rowdy Sheets Allegedly Opened Against Protesters
Jagan also responded to reports that rowdy sheets had allegedly been opened against some individuals who participated in the DSC protests.
He said it was inappropriate to take actions that could adversely affect the future and employment opportunities of young people for participating in a peaceful protest. Jagan maintained that citizens and unemployed candidates have the right to question the government when they have concerns about irregularities in a recruitment process.
YSRCP Demands CBI Probe
Jagan said the overall issue was about restoring public confidence in government recruitment examinations. He said students preparing for competitive examinations should have confidence that recruitment processes are conducted fairly and transparently.
The YSRCP will continue to demand a CBI investigation into the allegations surrounding the DSC recruitment process and action against those responsible, Jagan said.
