The arrest of Sannareddy Srinivasulu Reddy, YSRCP convener of Chittamur mandal in Gudur constituency of Nellore district, has triggered a political controversy in Andhra Pradesh. YSRCP leaders have alleged that the ruling TDP is misusing its power to target opposition leaders and their families during the local body elections.
Srinivasulu Reddy was arrested and sent to jail after police registered an attempt-to-murder case against him. YSRCP leaders claim that the case is politically motivated and was filed to help TDP ZPTC candidate Pelluru Soujanya win the election. They have also pointed out that Soujanya’s husband works as a Tahsildar, raising concerns over the alleged misuse of official influence.
YSRCP Central Executive Committee members Pernati Shyam Prasad Reddy and Meriga Muralidhar visited Srinivasulu Reddy at Nellore Central Jail. They expressed solidarity with him and assured his family that the party leadership and workers would stand by them. YSRCP leaders also criticised the alleged arrests of opposition leaders and party workers.
Children Campaign for Grandmother After Father’s Arrest
The most emotional aspect of the incident is the election campaign being carried out by Srinivasulu Reddy’s children, Hrithika Reddy and Hriday Reddy.
With their father in jail, the children have stepped out to campaign for their grandmother, Sannareddy Vijayalakshmi, who is contesting for the ZPTC position. A video showing the children appealing to voters has gone viral on social media.
In the video, they reportedly appeal to people by saying, “Our father has been illegally arrested. Please help our grandmother win the ZPTC election.”
The video has attracted considerable attention, with many people expressing concern over the situation faced by the children.
MP Maddila Gurumoorthy Reacts to Viral Campaign Video
YSRCP MP Maddila Gurumoorthy has responded to the viral video of the children campaigning for their grandmother. He said their pain and emotional appeal were deeply distressing.
He urged political leaders to look beyond party differences and understand the difficulties faced by the children. He also stressed that elections should be conducted in a free and democratic atmosphere without creating fear among families.
Gurumoorthy expressed solidarity with Srinivasulu Reddy’s family and criticised the circumstances that forced the children to campaign in the absence of their father.
Political Tensions Rise Ahead of Local Body Elections
The incident in Chittamur has become a major political talking point beyond Gudur constituency. YSRCP leaders have accused the ruling establishment of using police cases and official influence to put pressure on opposition candidates during the local body elections.
The viral campaign video has added an emotional dimension to the political controversy. While YSRCP leaders are demanding fair elections and questioning the arrest, the incident has once again brought the issue of political rivalry and alleged misuse of power in Andhra Pradesh into the spotlight.
The controversy has raised questions about the need to ensure a fair electoral process in which candidates and their families can participate without fear or intimidation.
