YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) president and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy recently visited the families of fishermen who went missing in the Visakhapatnam boat accident and met the survivor Kari Chinna at his residence in Jabbar Thota.
During the visit, Jagan expressed solidarity with the affected families and assured them, saying, “I am with you… do not lose courage.” He offered emotional support and promised that the YSRCP would stand by them during their difficult time.
Families Express Disappointment Over Government Response
The affected fishermen families expressed their disappointment, stating that even after 10 days since the accident, no minister from the state government had visited them or offered condolences.
Reacting to the situation, Jagan criticized the government’s response and questioned the compensation announced for the victims. He stated that out of the ₹10 lakh compensation announced by the government, the state government’s share was only ₹5 lakh, expressing dissatisfaction over the assistance provided.
Jagan Promises Greater Support for Victims
Jagan assured the families that the YSRCP would continue to put pressure on the government to provide better financial assistance.
He also announced that if the government failed to support the victims, the YSRCP government would provide ₹1 crore compensation to each affected family within one month of coming to power.
Apart from financial assistance, Jagan promised to arrange a new fishing boat for survivor Kari Chinna and take responsibility for the education expenses of children from the affected families.
He also announced that the YSRCP party would extend financial support to the victims’ families.
YSRCP Distributes ₹49 Lakh Assistance Within Four Days
Keeping its promise, YSRCP leaders distributed financial assistance cheques worth ₹49 lakh to the families of fishermen affected by the boat accident within four days of Jagan’s announcement.
Each affected family received a cheque of ₹7 lakh as support from the party.
Fishermen Families Thank YSRCP Leadership
The victim families expressed gratitude, stating that Jagan’s immediate response and fulfillment of his promise gave them renewed confidence and emotional strength during their crisis.
The YSRCP leaders reiterated that the party would continue supporting the affected families and fight for additional assistance from the government.
