Ajit Agarkar to Be Replaced as Chief Selector? BCCI Begins Key Selection Process

New Delhi, Sep 19: Team India chief selector Ajit Agarkar’s tenure is set to end on October 4. However, Agarkar is reportedly not interested in continuing in the role and has conveyed his decision to senior officials in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), sources close to the matter told PTI.

With Agarkar potentially stepping down, the BCCI is now expected to focus on the process of appointing a new chief selector.

BCCI Assigns Selection Committee Responsibilities

At the BCCI’s 95th Annual General Meeting held on Friday, the board reportedly entrusted its officials with taking future decisions related to the selection committees.

BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said that a large number of applications had been received for filling five vacant positions in the junior selection committee. He added that the board aims to complete the selection process within 15 days.

Fielding Coach’s Continuation to Be Reviewed

The continuation of India’s fielding coach Subhadeep Ghosh will also come under review. The BCCI is expected to assess his position as part of its broader review of the support staff and selection-related matters.

No Decision Yet on Ranchi Test Venue

Meanwhile, the Jharkhand State Cricket Association clarified that no decision has been taken to shift the India-Australia Test match from Ranchi.

The Mumbai Cricket Association, however, has reportedly submitted a proposal to the BCCI seeking to host the Test at Wankhede Stadium.

New Payment Structure for Umpires and Match Referees

The BCCI has also revised the payment structure for umpires and match referees. Under the new system, officials in Grades A, B, C and D will receive ₹60,000, ₹50,000, ₹40,000 and ₹35,000 per day, respectively.

Age Verification and Sexual Harassment Committee

The board has also updated its age-verification procedures. In addition, a new internal committee has been constituted to address issues related to the prevention of sexual harassment.

With Ajit Agarkar’s future as chief selector now uncertain, attention has shifted to who will take charge of the senior selection committee next.
