A key development has taken place in the Perupogu Krant Kumar suicide case in the Andhra Pradesh High Court. The court has issued notices to the state government, Director General of Police (DGP), and other concerned police officials on a petition alleging that harassment by CI Nagaraju was responsible for Krant Kumar’s suicide.
The High Court directed the authorities to file detailed counters explaining the facts and circumstances of the case. The court also made it clear that the petitioner should not be threatened or pressured to withdraw the complaint. The court reportedly raised questions regarding the rule requiring investigations in SC/ST cases to be completed within 30 days.
According to Krant Kumar’s family members, notices were also issued to the concerned Commissioner of Police (CP), Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), and CI Nagaraju.
Family Alleges Government and Police Negligence
Speaking to the media along with family members, Perupogu Venkateswara Rao, Krant Kumar’s father, alleged that the government and police had failed to act properly in his son’s case.
He questioned why the government had constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) in the Gade Saikrishna case but had not taken similar action in Krant Kumar’s case. Describing the alleged inaction as caste discrimination, Venkateswara Rao said the family approached the High Court and sought a CBI investigation because they had lost faith in the state government’s handling of the case.
Allegations of Threats to Withdraw Complaint
Venkateswara Rao further alleged that associates of CI Nagaraju were threatening family members and pressuring them to withdraw the complaint.
He said the High Court had directed the police not to threaten or intimidate the family. According to Venkateswara Rao, Krant Kumar had expressed his distress in a selfie video, alleging that harassment by CI Nagaraju was the reason behind his decision to take his own life.
Father Questions Government’s Response
Venkateswara Rao also said that he had previously supported the TDP and questioned why Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu had not responded when his family allegedly faced injustice.
He questioned whether the government needed the votes of SC and ST communities and demanded that the authorities ensure justice for affected families. He also alleged that 25 Dalits had been killed in the state since the coalition government came to power, and demanded that the government provide justice to their families.
YSRCP Extends Support to Krant Kumar’s Family
Venkateswara Rao said the YSRCP had extended support to Krant Kumar’s family and that YS Jagan had personally visited their house and assured them of support.
He demanded the immediate resignation of the Home Minister and announced that he would travel across the state with Dalit organisations to fight for justice for affected families.
He further said that Dalit organisations would come together as a Joint Action Committee (JAC) and stand with the families of victims in their fight for justice.
