The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) has urged the Andhra Pradesh State Election Commission to allow all eligible voters registered with the Election Commission of India (ECI) by July 15, 2026, to vote in the upcoming local body elections in Andhra Pradesh.
YSRCP State General Secretary and MLC Lella Appireddy has written to the State Chief Electoral Officer and the Election Commission of India, requesting that the latest voter registrations be considered while preparing the electoral rolls for the local body elections.
YSRCP Raises Concerns Over the Voter List
Lella Appireddy expressed concern that relying only on the voter list dated February 5, 2026, could deprive thousands of newly registered eligible voters of their right to vote.
He pointed out that many eligible citizens may have registered their names between February 5 and July 15, 2026. If these voters are excluded from the electoral rolls used for the local body elections, they could lose their opportunity to participate in the democratic process.
Demand to Include Newly Registered Voters
The YSRCP leader urged the State Election Commission to include all eligible voters registered up to July 15, 2026, in the voter list for the upcoming local body elections.
He also requested the authorities to publish an updated electoral roll well in advance of the elections. This would help voters verify their details and ensure that their names are correctly included in the final list.
Clear Guidelines for Election Officials
In his letter, Appireddy also called for clear instructions to be issued to field-level election officials. He stressed the need to provide voters with an opportunity to check their names, identify errors and request necessary corrections.
The YSRCP leader said that updating the electoral rolls and ensuring transparency in the voter registration process are essential to protect the voting rights of eligible citizens.
The demand comes ahead of the Andhra Pradesh local body elections, with the inclusion of newly registered voters emerging as an important issue in the preparation of electoral rolls.
