YSRCP Questions Government’s Stand on Swarnamukhi River Constructions
The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) has accused the Chandrababu Naidu-led Andhra Pradesh government of adopting a double standard in dealing with constructions located in the Swarnamukhi River buffer zone. The party alleged that authorities are acting aggressively against lands linked to opposition leaders while ignoring alleged violations involving Heritage Foods, a company associated with Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s family.
In a detailed social media post, YSRCP cited several survey numbers and map references to question the government’s selective enforcement of regulations governing the Swarnamukhi River floodplain.
Why No Action Against Heritage, Asks YSRCP
The party referred to the recent government action involving land owned by former Tirupati MLA and YSRCP leader Bhumana Karunakar Reddy in the Swarnamukhi River catchment area. YSRCP alleged that despite a court stay on the property, the government proceeded with action in what it described as a politically motivated move.
Tirupati YSRCP constituency coordinator Bhumana Abhinay had earlier alleged that the government acted with vengeance in acquiring the land.
Against this backdrop, YSRCP shifted focus to lands and structures belonging to Heritage Foods.
Survey Numbers and Buffer Zone Allegations
According to YSRCP, the Swarnamukhi River flows adjacent to Survey No. 185 in Kasipentla village of Chandragiri mandal.
The party alleged that:
- A Heritage water treatment plant located in Survey No. 173 falls within the river’s buffer zone.
- A wastewater sump in Survey No. 172 is also situated within the Swarnamukhi River area as per official maps.
- Mango orchards spread across Survey Nos. 166, 167, and 168 are allegedly located within the river’s catchment area.
YSRCP Seeks Answers from Authorities
The opposition party raised a series of questions for the government and officials:
- Do Swarnamukhi River buffer zone regulations not apply to Heritage Foods?
- Have authorities ever inspected the water treatment plant in Survey No. 173?
- Was the wastewater sump in Survey No. 172 constructed in compliance with environmental and buffer zone norms?
- Have officials conducted any survey or initiated action regarding the alleged mango plantations within the river catchment area?
Allegation of Selective Enforcement
YSRCP alleged that the government acted swiftly against agricultural land purchased by the Bhumana family nearly 24 years ago, while remaining silent over the alleged constructions associated with Heritage Foods.
The party questioned why similar standards were not being applied in both cases.
“One Rule for Common People, Another for the CM’s Family?”
The party further alleged that the government is following one policy for opposition leaders and another for an organization linked to the Chief Minister’s family.
YSRCP challenged the Chandrababu government to demonstrate that everyone is equal before the law by conducting the same level of scrutiny into Heritage Foods’ properties as it has in cases involving opposition leaders.
The allegations and survey details raised by Tirupati YSRCP have now triggered political debate, with attention turning to how the Andhra Pradesh government or the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) will respond to the claims.
