YSRCP senior leader and former minister RK Roja has strongly criticised the Andhra Pradesh coalition government over its claims of development and irrigation projects in Rayalaseema. Speaking to the media in Nagari, Roja alleged that the government’s publicity about Rayalaseema development does not match the situation on the ground.
She claimed that the coalition government was presenting old projects and announcements as its own achievements while failing to provide clear details on the progress of major irrigation works in the region.
Rayalaseema Irrigation Projects: Where Are the Works?
Roja alleged that several projects initiated during the tenure of former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy were now being projected as achievements of the coalition government.
She questioned the government’s claims of undertaking projects worth around Rs 24,000 crore and demanded that it publicly disclose where these projects are located, how much work has been completed and how much money has been spent.
Roja also demanded that the government clearly state when it would complete the Rayalaseema Lift Irrigation Scheme (RLIS) if it was genuinely committed to the region’s irrigation needs.
“Rayalaseema Development Exists Only in Babu and Pawan’s Statements”
Roja alleged that the coalition government has failed to give the same priority to agriculture and irrigation that was given during the administrations of former Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy and YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.
She criticised the government for setting aside projects such as the Water Grid and introducing new slogans and announcements instead of demonstrating tangible progress on the ground.
According to Roja, the people of Rayalaseema need completed irrigation projects and reliable water supply rather than publicity campaigns.
Water Supply in Kuppam and Pithapuram Under Question
Roja also questioned Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu’s response to remarks made by Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy in the Telangana Assembly.
She claimed that if the government has not been able to completely address drinking and irrigation water issues in constituencies such as Kuppam and Pithapuram, its claims about transforming Rayalaseema need to be examined closely.
She alleged that people were being shown a “colourful picture” of Rayalaseema development while ground-level conditions remained different.
Amaravati Spending vs Rayalaseema Irrigation Projects
Roja further alleged that the government was giving greater priority to spending in Amaravati while irrigation projects in Rayalaseema continued to face delays.
She demanded that the government release detailed figures on the number of new acres brought under irrigation since it came to power.
The YSRCP leader said the government should provide a clear account of funds allocated to Rayalaseema irrigation projects, project-wise progress and the additional agricultural land that has actually received irrigation water.
Roja Demands Accountability on Rayalaseema Development
Roja said that the progress of Rayalaseema should be measured by completed projects, actual expenditure and the number of acres receiving irrigation water, rather than government publicity.
She challenged the coalition government to release detailed data on the progress of major irrigation projects and explain what has been achieved on the ground.
She alleged that publicity alone cannot convince people about development and claimed that the people of Rayalaseema would ultimately judge the government based on its actual performance.
