Radha Krishna, son of late Vangaveeti Mohana Ranga, entered politics carrying the legacy of one of the most prominent political figures associated with the Kapu community in the Telugu states. However, his political journey has not matched the expectations that surrounded his entry into public life.
Vangaveeti Radha’s Political Journey
Vangaveeti Radha Krishna won the Vijayawada East Assembly seat in 2004, marking his first major electoral success. That remains his last Assembly victory so far.
He subsequently contested the 2009 Assembly elections on a Congress ticket and the 2014 elections on a YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) ticket, but failed to win either election.
Radha later joined the Telugu Desam Party. However, he did not receive an Assembly ticket from the TDP in either the 2019 or 2024 elections.
His political shift before the 2019 elections also became a subject of considerable debate. At a time when the YSRCP was widely seen as having a strong electoral position, Radha left the party and joined the TDP. His decision was particularly controversial among sections of Ranga’s supporters because the TDP has historically faced criticism and allegations surrounding the circumstances of Vangaveeti Mohana Ranga’s killing.
