Vijayawada Dasara Celebrations: Devotees Face Problems, Media Protests Restrictions at Kanaka Durga Temple

The Dasara celebrations at Kanaka Durga Temple in Vijayawada have begun with religious rituals and special prayers. On the first day of the festival, Goddess Kanaka Durga appeared before devotees in the Sri Bala Tripura Sundari Devi Alankaram at the Sri Durga Malleswara Swamy Varla Devasthanam on Indrakeeladri Hill.

The district collector, police commissioner, temple chairman, and executive officer visited the temple and offered special prayers. Kumkumarchana rituals began at the newly established prayer hall, while the traditional opening rituals for the Chandi Homam were performed at the Yagashala.

Temple authorities stated that arrangements had been completed to ensure a smooth experience for devotees during the festival.

Devotees Complain About Drinking Water and Basic Facilities

Despite the official claims, the first day of the Vijayawada Dasara celebrations witnessed criticism over the facilities provided to devotees. Several devotees reportedly faced difficulties while waiting in the queue lines, with complaints that even drinking water was not readily available.

Frustrated devotees questioned MP Kesineni Chinni and explained the problems they encountered at the temple. The complaints raised concerns about the arrangements made for the large number of people visiting Kanaka Durga Temple during the festival.

Devotees expect the authorities to provide basic facilities, including drinking water, proper queue management, and other essential services, to ensure a comfortable and safe pilgrimage.

Media Representatives Protest Restrictions at Durga Temple

The controversy intensified when media representatives staged a protest near Kanaka Durga Temple. They objected to restrictions on their entry and demanded that the district collector visit the spot and respond to their concerns.

Media representatives argued that reporting on the facilities available to devotees and the difficulties they face is an important part of their responsibility. They questioned why the government was preventing journalists from carrying out their professional duties during a major public festival.

According to the protesting journalists, the media should be allowed to report on ground-level conditions, including the availability of drinking water, queue management, and other arrangements made for devotees.

Questions Raised Over Media Freedom During Dasara

The restrictions on media coverage during the Indrakeeladri Dasara festival have triggered criticism. Some media representatives questioned why journalists were being restricted while social media influencers were reportedly being given importance for promotional activities.

They also alleged that limiting media access could prevent the public from learning about problems in festival management. The protesters questioned whether the restrictions were justified, particularly when devotees were raising concerns about basic facilities.

The issue has also led to questions about the government’s approach to media freedom and transparency during public events.

Demand for Better Facilities and Free Media Coverage

The protesters urged the Andhra Pradesh government and district administration to address the problems faced by devotees at Kanaka Durga Temple. They called for adequate drinking water, improved queue arrangements, and other essential facilities throughout the Dasara celebrations.

They also demanded that media representatives be allowed to perform their duties without unnecessary restrictions so that the public can receive accurate information about the festival arrangements.

As the Dasara celebrations continue, the response of the temple authorities and district administration to these concerns will remain important. Ensuring adequate facilities for devotees while allowing transparent media coverage is essential for the smooth conduct of the festival.
