The Andhra Pradesh government made elaborate arrangements for the inauguration of the first phase of the Poola Subbaiah Veligonda Project, which is considered a lifeline for drought-prone regions.
However, the inauguration drew strong objections from the principal opposition as well as the Left parties. The main question raised by them concerns Chandrababu Naidu’s actual contribution to the project when its long history is taken into consideration.
Questions Over Chandrababu’s Role in the Project
Chandrababu Naidu laid the foundation stone for the Veligonda Project during the 1996 parliamentary elections, reportedly seeking the support of people in Prakasam district.
However, critics allege that he did not subsequently take sufficient initiative to accelerate the construction of the project. Left Parties Refuse to Give Full Credit to Chandrababu
