Unemployed Candidates Seek Age Limit Relaxation for Group–1, Group–2 Jobs

Tadepalli, Sep 18: Unemployed candidates have urged the Andhra Pradesh government to increase the upper age limit for aspirants applying for Group–1 and Group–2 government jobs from 44 years to 47 years. The candidates submitted a representation to YSRCP president and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, seeking his intervention on the issue.

Candidates Meet Jagan

The candidates met Jagan at the YSRCP central office in Tadepalli on Thursday under the leadership of A. Ravichandra, state working president of the YSRCP student wing. They explained the difficulties they are facing due to the existing age restrictions and requested him to take up the issue with the state government.

Demand for One-Time Age Relaxation

The candidates said the Phase–2 Job Calendar announced by the government provides only a two-year relaxation in the upper age limit. According to them, this has left several aspirants ineligible for government recruitment.

They pointed out that between 2018 and 2026, notifications for Group–1, Group–2 and DSC posts were issued only on a limited basis. As a result, many candidates who had been preparing for government jobs for years have crossed the prescribed age limit.

The candidates urged Jagan to put pressure on the government to provide a one-time relaxation and raise the upper age limit to 47 years for the current job calendar.

Reference to Telangana

The aspirants also referred to age-limit relaxations provided in Telangana in the past. They said similar consideration should be given to unemployed candidates in Andhra Pradesh.

They further brought to Jagan’s attention that TDP leaders and TDP graduate MLCs had earlier demanded an increase in the age limit for unemployed candidates to 47 years, particularly when the retirement age of government employees was increased.

Appeal After Group–1 Notification

With the Group–1 notification issued on September 15, the candidates appealed for an immediate decision on the age-limit issue. They said a one-time relaxation would provide an opportunity for many aspirants who have crossed the existing age limit to compete for government jobs.

Jagan Responds

Responding to their representation, Jagan said he would examine the issue and raise it as necessary. The candidates expressed hope that the matter would be taken up with the government and that an opportunity would be provided to eligible aspirants who have crossed the current age limit.
