TVK Reiterates Firm Stand Against NEET
The debate over the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) has resurfaced across the country following recent paper leak controversies and growing student protests. In this backdrop, the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) in Tamil Nadu has reiterated its strong opposition to the examination.
Under the leadership of Chief Minister ‘Thalapathy’ Vijay, TVK has demanded not only stringent action against irregularities in NEET but also the complete abolition of the national medical entrance examination across India. The party has also urged the Central Government to hand over complete control of education, including medical education, to the state governments.
Statement Issued Amid Student Protests
As student protests against NEET continue in New Delhi, TVK released an official statement reaffirming that it would not compromise on its demand to abolish the examination.
Without directly naming the DMK, the party criticized those who had promised to abolish NEET during elections but later failed to fulfill their commitment. TVK stated that unlike parties that make electoral promises only to backtrack later, it has maintained a consistent stand against NEET from the very beginning.
Demand to Shift Education Back to State List
As a long-term solution, TVK has called for moving education from the Concurrent List of the Constitution back to the State List, thereby restoring greater authority to state governments.
If that is not feasible, the party has proposed creating a separate Concurrent List specifically for education, ensuring that states are granted complete decision-making powers, particularly over medical education.
TVK Warns Rival Parties
The party also cautioned rival political parties against taking credit for movements initiated by others for political gains. TVK asserted that it would continue its fight for the abolition of NEET and for restoring greater autonomy to states in educational matters.
