A tragic incident has reportedly occurred at a school in Gollaguppa village of Etapaka mandal in Polavaram district. According to preliminary information, school staff distributed chloroquine tablets to 73 students.
Around 20 Students Fall Ill
Shortly after consuming the tablets, around 20 students reportedly fell ill. The affected students developed health complications and were immediately taken to the Bhadrachalam Area Government Hospital in Telangana for treatment.
Five Students Reportedly in Critical Condition
Of the students undergoing treatment, the condition of five is reportedly said to be extremely critical. Medical teams are providing treatment and closely monitoring their health.
Two Students Reportedly Die
Meanwhile, reports indicate that two students died after allegedly suffering adverse effects from the chloroquine tablets. The exact cause of the deaths is yet to be officially established.
Allegations Over Expired Medicines
There are also allegations that the medicines distributed to the students had expired. However, these claims have not yet been officially confirmed. Authorities are expected to verify the batch details, expiry dates and other information related to the medicines.
