Nature's Fury Strikes Wayanad Again: Massive Landslide Kills Four, Terrifying CCTV Footage Goes Viral

Fresh Landslide Horror Hits Wayanad

Nature unleashed its fury once again in Wayanad, Kerala, as a massive landslide struck the region on Tuesday, reminding residents of the devastating 2024 disaster. The incident claimed the lives of four people, while several others sustained injuries. CCTV footage capturing the terrifying moments has gone viral across social media, highlighting the scale of the tragedy.

Landslide at Tunnel Road Project Site

The landslide occurred near Meenakshi Bridge at the construction site of the Anakkampoyil–Kalladi–Meppadi Tunnel Road Project near Kalladi. According to officials, the region has been experiencing continuous heavy rainfall over the past several days, which is believed to have triggered the collapse.

Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the incident, but preliminary assessments point to the relentless rains as the primary reason behind the disaster.

CCTV Captures Terrifying Moments

The viral CCTV footage shows workers carrying out routine construction activities when, within seconds, a massive section of the hillside gave way. Huge volumes of mud, rocks, and debris came crashing down at high speed, leaving workers with little time to react.

While some workers managed to escape by running to safety, others were trapped beneath the debris. Rescue teams rushed to the scene and launched emergency operations immediately.

Tanker Swept Away, Survivors Escape Narrowly

The force of the landslide was so intense that a parked tanker lorry was dragged several metres by the flowing mud and debris.

In another dramatic moment, a couple and another individual became trapped in the landslide but were rescued safely after a short period, providing a rare moment of relief amid the tragedy.

Environmental Concerns Resurface

The incident has once again reignited concerns over large-scale infrastructure projects in environmentally sensitive areas of Wayanad.

Environmental activists have previously expressed reservations about the Anakkampoyil–Kalladi–Meppadi Tunnel Road Project, warning that extensive construction activities in fragile hill regions could increase the risk of landslides, particularly during the monsoon season. The latest tragedy has brought those concerns back into public debate.

Leaders Express Condolences

Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi expressed condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.

The Kerala government also conveyed its sympathies, stating that rescue and relief operations are being carried out on a war footing. Officials assured that all necessary assistance would be extended to the affected families and that every effort is being made to support the victims during this difficult time.
