The land acquisition issue in the Amaravati capital region is in the news again. Farmers from Undavalli are very upset about the proposed Seed Access Road. They think the acquisition process is not fair to them. When they ask for treatment they are called obstacles to development by some people.
The farmers from Undavalli say they tried times to talk to the government about their problems.. They were not given a chance to have a proper conversation. So they went to opposition leader YS Jagan Mohan Reddy to tell him about their concerns.
Undavalli Farmers’ Concerns Over Land Valuation
The farmers from Undavalli say that the value of their land was already very high before the government announced the capital region. They point out that the land in areas like Thullur was cheaper.. The land in Undavalli and nearby Penumaka was already worth a lot of money because it is near the capital gateway.
The farmers think it is not fair to use the method to value the land in all villages. They say that the value of the land the sources of income and the geographical conditions are different in each area. They want the government to consider these differences when acquiring land.
Allegations of Being Targeted for Meeting Opposition Leader
The farmers from Undavalli also say that they tried to meet Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Minister Nara Lokesh times.. They were not allowed to meet them. After they met YS Jagan Mohan Reddy they were attacked on media. The farmers think this is an attempt to harm them.
Farmers’ Livelihood at Risk
The farmers from Undavalli and Penumaka are mostly small farmers. They own a piece of land usually between 10 to 25 cents. This land is their source of income. They lease it out. Use it for farming. If the government acquires their land they will lose their livelihood.
Demand to Exempt Undavalli from Land Acquisition
The farmers from Undavalli want the government to exclude their village from the land acquisition process. They think their village is different from others in the region. The government should talk to the farmers directly. Consider their objections before making any decisions.
