Hyderabad: BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) has strongly criticised the Congress government in Telangana, questioning Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s administration and its handling of farmers, weavers and other public issues.
Addressing a press conference at Telangana Bhavan in Hyderabad, KTR questioned the government’s policies and recalled several allegations that Revanth Reddy had made against the previous BRS government.
KTR Raises Farmers’ Problems
KTR alleged that farmers across Telangana are facing serious difficulties and said the government must address their concerns instead of making political statements.
He also raised the issue of urea availability, claiming that farmers in several parts of the state are struggling to get adequate supplies. KTR demanded that the government take immediate steps to resolve the shortage and ensure that farmers receive fertiliser without difficulty.
KTR Questions Revanth Reddy’s Sircilla Visit
KTR also criticised Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s recent visit to Sircilla. The BRS leader raised concerns over the condition of the handloom and textile sector and alleged that several weavers had died by suicide after the Congress government came to power.
Recent reports have highlighted continuing financial distress among Sircilla’s weaving community. Telangana Today reported that 34 weavers had died by suicide over a three-year period, while BRS leaders have cited a higher figure in their criticism of the state government.
KTR demanded financial assistance for the families of deceased weavers and questioned why adequate support had not been provided. He said the government should focus on the problems faced by handloom workers and take measures to protect their livelihoods.
The Telangana government, meanwhile, has highlighted its spending on the handloom sector during the current administration. At a Sircilla public meeting, Revanth Reddy said ₹1,751 crore had been spent on the handloom sector in the previous two-and-a-half years, compared with ₹2,234 crore during the previous ten years.
KTR Questions Police Security During CM Visit
KTR also questioned the heavy police security arrangements made during the Chief Minister’s Sircilla visit. He argued that greater attention should instead be given to farmers and other sections facing livelihood-related problems.
He called for immediate action on the issues affecting farmers, particularly the reported shortage of urea in several areas.
Formula E, Phone Tapping Allegations
KTR also referred to issues including the Formula E case, phone-tapping allegations and claims previously made by Revanth Reddy regarding buildings and other matters.
He questioned what the government had established on these allegations after being in power and asked why the focus was not being shifted towards addressing public issues.
KTR said the BRS would continue to question the government on issues affecting farmers, workers and other sections of society.
KTR Responds to Personal Criticism
Responding to personal remarks allegedly made against him by the Chief Minister, KTR said the government should focus on administration rather than making personal comments.
He also referred to his educational qualifications and said personal issues should not become the focus of political debate.
KTR Highlights KCR’s Political Career
KTR also referred to the political career of his father and former Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR).
He said KCR entered politics in 1983 and was first elected as an MLA in 1985. KTR recalled that KCR subsequently served as a minister, Deputy Speaker and Union minister before playing a key role in the Telangana movement and state politics.
KTR said political leaders should focus on solving problems faced by farmers and handloom workers rather than engaging in personal criticism.
The exchange comes amid continued political confrontation between the ruling Congress and the opposition BRS over governance, welfare schemes and the condition of Telangana’s farming and handloom sectors.
