Chandrababu Reportedly Unhappy Over Sharing Stage with YSRCP Leader
A political controversy has erupted within the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) after MLA Bonda Umamaheswara Rao attended the memorial meeting of late Kapu movement leader Mudragada Padmanabham and shared the stage with YSRCP leader Ambati Rambabu. According to party sources, Chief Minister and TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu expressed displeasure over the development.
Following the incident, TDP state president Palla Srinivasa Rao and Minister Nimmala Ramanaidu have reportedly been entrusted with the responsibility of seeking an explanation from Bonda Umamaheswara Rao regarding his participation in the event.
Remarks at Memorial Meeting Trigger Party Concern
The memorial meeting, held in Guntur, became controversial after Bonda Umamaheswara Rao and Ambati Rambabu were seen greeting and embracing each other. During the event, Bonda Umamaheswara Rao reportedly remarked that “Mudragada Padmanabham was one of the reasons behind the TDP’s defeat in the 2019 elections.”
Party insiders claim these remarks, along with sharing the platform with a senior YSRCP leader, did not go down well with the TDP leadership. It is also being reported that the party high command has reiterated its instructions that leaders should avoid sharing public platforms with opposition leaders.
Bonda Uma Defends His Participation
Bonda Umamaheswara Rao is said to have expressed dissatisfaction over the party’s response. According to reports, he clarified that he did not attend a YSRCP-organized event, but only participated in the memorial meeting organized by former Jana Sena leader Dasari Ramu.
He reportedly explained that Ambati Rambabu happened to be present at the venue and that he greeted him purely as a matter of courtesy, dismissing any political interpretation of the interaction.
MLA Raises Questions Over Alleged Double Standards
Sources indicate that Bonda Umamaheswara Rao has also questioned the party’s approach. He is reportedly asking whether the TDP leadership would similarly seek explanations from leaders like Jyothula Nehru and Vangaveeti Radha, who attended another Mudragada Padmanabham memorial meeting organized by YSRCP leader Jakkampudi Raja in the Godavari region.
His reported argument has fueled discussions within party circles about whether different standards are being applied to different leaders.
Debate Within TDP’s Kapu Leadership
The developments have reportedly sparked discontent among several Kapu leaders within the TDP. Political observers note that some leaders believe attending a memorial meeting of a respected leader from the Kapu community should not automatically be viewed through a political lens.
Questions are being raised over whether paying tribute to a deceased leader should become a matter of political controversy.
Comparisons with Earlier Events
Some leaders have also drawn comparisons with an earlier occasion when Vangaveeti Radha shared the stage with YSRCP leaders Jakkampudi Raja and Dadisetti Raja during the unveiling of a statue of his father, Vangaveeti Ranga. They point out that no major objections were reportedly raised at that time.
This has led to criticism from certain Kapu organizations, which argue that leaders from different political parties should have the freedom to come together for community-related events without facing disciplinary scrutiny.
