Former Jana Sena Leader Pathamsetti Suryachandra Joins YSRCP in Jaggampeta

Former Jana Sena leader Pathamsetti Suryachandra has joined the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) along with his wife Sridevi and several key supporters. They joined the party in the presence of YSRCP president and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. His entry into YSRCP has sparked political discussions in Jaggampeta, where he is known for his grassroots public service.

Pathamsetti Suryachandra’s Journey from Public Service to Politics

Suryachandra began his journey through public service rather than holding political positions. In 1998, while pursuing his degree after completing intermediate education, he noticed the severe drinking water shortage in his native village of Borugupudi.

Concerned about women travelling long distances to fetch water, he approached officials to resolve the problem. When his efforts did not produce results, he fitted a water tank to his own tractor and supplied drinking water to villagers free of cost. He also helped sick people by arranging transportation to hospitals.

His efforts earned him recognition among local residents and laid the foundation for his political career.

Three-Time Sarpanch and Award-Winning Village Leader

In 2001, Suryachandra contested the sarpanch election as an independent candidate. He defeated a strong opponent who had previously served as sarpanch three times, winning by a margin of around 300 votes.

After taking charge, he arranged for five new borewells to be drilled and worked to provide tap water to every household in the village.

In recognition of his work, he reportedly received state-level Best Sarpanch awards seven times and national-level recognition twice. His consecutive victories as sarpanch without relying on alcohol or cash distribution also became a notable part of his political journey.

How Pawan Kalyan Recognised Suryachandra

Suryachandra attracted attention in Jana Sena circles following a speech he delivered at a sarpanch meeting in Pattiseema in 2018. According to reports at the time, Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan appreciated his speech on the stage.

In the 2019 Andhra Pradesh Assembly elections, Jana Sena fielded Suryachandra as its candidate from Jaggampeta. However, he finished third with 10,649 votes.

Despite the defeat, he continued working for the party and remained active among people in the constituency.

Five Years of Grassroots Campaigning for Jana Sena

Suryachandra and his wife Sridevi reportedly spent five years working among the public with the goal of helping Pawan Kalyan become Chief Minister.

Under the slogan “Away from Home, Close to the People,” the couple locked their house and travelled through villages in an auto-rickshaw. They campaigned for Jana Sena’s ideology and promoted the party’s Glass Tumbler election symbol.

Their grassroots campaigning became an important part of Suryachandra’s political identity in Jaggampeta.

Why Suryachandra Contested the 2024 Elections as an Independent

During the 2024 Andhra Pradesh Assembly elections, the TDP-Jana Sena-BJP alliance allocated the Jaggampeta Assembly ticket to TDP leader Jyothula Nehru. Suryachandra, who had hoped to contest on a Jana Sena ticket, was not selected.

He subsequently entered the election as an independent candidate and secured 12,531 votes.

His vote count increased from 10,649 in 2019 to 12,531 in 2024, despite contesting independently in the latter election. His supporters view the increase as an indication of his personal support base in the constituency.

The ticket allocation and political developments surrounding the Jaggampeta seat also reportedly caused disappointment among some of his supporters. Earlier remarks attributed to TDP leader Jyothula Nehru regarding Suryachandra’s Jana Sena candidacy had also drawn attention to local political differences.

Suryachandra’s Entry into YSRCP May Influence Jaggampeta Politics

Suryachandra’s decision to leave Jana Sena and join YSRCP marks a significant development in his political career. After spending years working for Jana Sena at the grassroots level, the denial of a party ticket in 2024 was widely discussed as a setback.

His move to YSRCP, along with his wife Sridevi and key supporters, could strengthen the party’s local presence, according to political observers.

The development also raises questions about its potential impact on the TDP-Jana Sena alliance in Jaggampeta. Whether Suryachandra’s personal support base and public-service background will influence future political equations remains to be seen.

His political shift is likely to attract attention as parties prepare for future electoral contests in the Jaggampeta constituency.
