Massive Protest Against Proposed Mining at Sacred Sadukonda
Hundreds of devotees staged a large-scale protest against the proposed mining activities at the sacred Sadukonda hill near Tamballapalle in Andhra Pradesh’s Annamayya district. Chanting “Om Namah Shivaya,” devotees climbed the nearly 1,500-foot-high hill to offer special prayers and demand an immediate halt to mining operations.
Women, youth, senior citizens, and families participated in the spiritual protest, urging the government to preserve the sanctity of the hill. The devotees also prayed for abundant rainfall across the state and prosperity for farmers. A special highlight of the event was 84-year-old Sudhahara Reddy, who spent the night atop the hill as part of his protest.

Ignoring his age, he climbed the hill and stayed overnight at the summit as a mark of protest against the proposed mining project. Fellow devotees praised his determination, saying he demonstrated that devotion and commitment know no age.

The protest witnessed significant participation from women and young people.
Although the climb to the hilltop was physically demanding, many devotees used walking sticks and continued chanting “Om Namah Shivaya” throughout the journey.
