Union Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has faced criticism from the YSRCP after the party challenged his remarks against former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy over housing works.
Speaking at a public meeting in Tenali, Chouhan reportedly criticised the previous Jagan government over the implementation of housing projects in Andhra Pradesh. The remarks triggered a strong response from the YSRCP, which countered the allegations with figures from official Central government records.
YSRCP cites Parliament records on housing
The YSRCP said the claims made by the Union Minister were inconsistent with data provided by the Central government itself.
According to the party, YSRCP MP YS Avinash Reddy had raised questions in Parliament regarding housing works in Andhra Pradesh. In its written response, the Central government reportedly stated that around 9.02 lakh houses had been completed by the time the Jagan government left office.
The YSRCP used these figures to challenge Chouhan’s criticism and questioned why a Union Minister would make political claims that allegedly contradict official government data.
YSRCP Social Media targets Chouhan’s remarks
The YSRCP’s social media wing launched a strong counterattack following Chouhan’s comments. It shared relevant parliamentary records and government figures in response to the Minister’s statements.
The party also questioned Chouhan over the difference between his claims at the Tenali meeting and the figures available in official Central government records.
The issue gained further political attention after a video in which Chouhan criticised Jagan was reportedly posted on his X (formerly Twitter) account and later deleted.
Deleted tweet triggers political debate
The reported deletion of the post has become a fresh talking point in Andhra Pradesh political circles. The YSRCP claimed that Chouhan removed the post after the party highlighted official records contradicting the allegations.
The party also alleged that Chouhan, despite holding a senior position in the Union government, should rely on verified government data while speaking about development programmes implemented by a state government.
However, the circumstances behind the deletion of the post and whether it was directly linked to the YSRCP’s response have not been independently established.
Housing becomes another political flashpoint in AP
Housing remains a major political issue in Andhra Pradesh, with the YSRCP and the ruling coalition continuing to debate the achievements and shortcomings of previous and current governments.
The latest controversy has now brought the 9.02 lakh houses reportedly completed during the Jagan government’s tenure into the political spotlight. The dispute is likely to continue as both sides present different narratives over the implementation of housing schemes in the state.
