Chandrababu Faces YSRCP Criticism Over Housing Scheme; Party Says Jagan Govt Issued 31 Lakh House Site Pattas

The housing scheme for poor families in Andhra Pradesh has triggered a fresh political controversy, with the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) strongly criticising Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu’s remarks on the previous government’s housing programme.

The YSRCP alleged that the Chandrababu-led government was taking political credit for houses that were already sanctioned or under construction during the previous YS Jagan Mohan Reddy government.

According to the YSRCP, more than 31 lakh house site pattas were distributed and over 21 lakh houses were sanctioned during the Jagan government.

Jagan Government’s Housing Scheme Under Debate

The YSRCP said the previous government had taken several measures to provide housing to poor families in both rural and urban areas of Andhra Pradesh.

The party claimed that house site pattas and housing benefits were provided largely in the names of women, with the objective of giving them greater ownership and property rights.

The YSRCP also alleged that the present government was continuing construction of houses sanctioned during the previous regime while presenting them as achievements of the current administration.

YSRCP Questions Claim of 5.5 Lakh Houses

The opposition party has also questioned the government’s claim of constructing and handing over around 5.5 lakh houses to poor families.

The YSRCP alleged that a significant number of these houses were sanctioned during the previous government and that the current administration was taking credit for continuing those projects.

The party said the government should release complete details of the houses sanctioned, houses under construction and houses completed under each government to provide clarity to the public.

Political Row Over Housing for Poor Families

The YSRCP further criticised the Chandrababu government over what it described as a lack of fresh house-site distribution for poor families.

The party alleged that the government was focusing more on political publicity than on presenting a clear account of the state’s housing programme.

The opposition also linked the government’s criticism of the previous housing scheme to what it described as growing public dissatisfaction over the implementation of election promises under the Super Six agenda.

YSRCP Demands Complete Housing Data

The YSRCP has demanded that the Andhra Pradesh government publish comprehensive data on the housing programme, including the number of house site pattas distributed, houses sanctioned, houses started and houses completed under the previous and present governments.

The party maintained that the contribution of the Jagan government to the Andhra Pradesh housing scheme should not be ignored while calculating the current government’s housing achievements.

The latest allegations have added another political dimension to the debate over housing for poor families in Andhra Pradesh.
