The Central Government has approved two major national highway projects worth ₹14,115 crore to strengthen India’s road infrastructure and improve transportation efficiency. The decision was taken during the Union Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
According to the government, these projects will significantly improve connectivity in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh, reduce traffic congestion, shorten travel time, and support economic growth through better logistics and transportation.
₹6,970 Crore Approval for Dwarka Tunnel in Delhi
The Union Cabinet has given the green signal for the construction of a six-lane Dwarka Tunnel in Delhi at an estimated cost of ₹6,970 crore.
Once completed, the tunnel is expected to ease traffic congestion across the national capital and substantially reduce travel time. It will provide smoother connectivity between Dwarka, Indira Gandhi International Airport, and other key parts of the city, making daily commuting more convenient for residents and travelers.
Kanpur–Kabrai Access-Controlled Highway Gets Cabinet Nod
The Cabinet also approved the construction of a four-lane access-controlled highway connecting Kanpur and Kabrai in Uttar Pradesh.
The project, with an estimated investment of ₹7,145 crore, is expected to improve regional connectivity and facilitate faster movement of goods and passengers. The government believes the new highway will strengthen industrial, commercial, and economic activities across the region by enhancing transportation efficiency.
Faster Travel and Lower Logistics Costs
Officials said that the two highway projects will help reduce travel time and fuel consumption once they become operational. A more efficient road network is also expected to lower logistics costs, benefiting businesses and contributing to India’s overall economic development.
