After the coalition government assumed power in Andhra Pradesh, criticism has intensified from the opposition, which alleges that questions raised against the government are being met with intimidation and physical attacks rather than policy-based responses. Opposition parties and pro-democracy groups claim that democratic values have been under strain since the alleged implementation of “Red Book” governance, accusing the administration of fostering an atmosphere of political retaliation.
Tension at DSC Protest in Vijayawada
A relay hunger strike organized at Mutyalampadu in Vijayawada by youth, YSRCP leaders, and former MLA Malladi Vishnu demanding a CBI investigation into the alleged irregularities in the DSC examinations turned tense. According to allegations made by the opposition, TDP MLA Bonda Uma, accompanied by his supporters, reached the protest venue and disrupted the hunger strike camp.
The incident reportedly led to clashes between supporters of both parties, including the throwing of eggs and scuffles. The opposition also alleged that the protest camp was desecrated in a highly offensive manner by pouring toilet waste, an accusation that has sparked widespread political debate. Critics argue that such actions against those staging a peaceful democratic protest reflect authoritarian tendencies.
Opposition Lists Series of Alleged Attacks
The YSRCP alleges that the Vijayawada incident is part of a broader pattern of attacks targeting its leaders, residences, and party offices over the past several months.
According to the opposition, the residences of former ministers Ambati Rambabu, Jogi Ramesh, Kodali Nani, Perni Nani, Vallabhaneni Vamsi, Mudragada Padmanabham, Nallapureddy Prasanna Kumar Reddy, Kamireddy Nani, Kethireddy Peddareddy, and Bhumana Karunakar Reddy have come under attack.
The party also claims that attacks were carried out on the YSRCP office in Hindupur, the offices of Margani Bharat and Namburi Shankara Rao, as well as the offices of Deccan Chronicle and Sakshi. It further alleges that attempts were made to attack leaders including Vidadala Rajini, Devineni Avinash, and MLC Ramesh Yadav.

Pro-democracy advocates argue that in a democratic system, governments are expected to answer questions raised by citizens and opposition parties rather than suppress criticism through intimidation or violence.
