Visakhapatnam: The strike by ASHA workers in Visakhapatnam district over their long-pending demands continued on Wednesday. As part of the protest, ASHA workers staged a demonstration outside the office of TDP state president and MLA Palla Srinivas in Old Gajuwaka.
The protesting workers urged the Andhra Pradesh government to immediately address their demands and provide justice. They said better wages, job security and welfare benefits are essential for ASHA workers who play an important role in delivering healthcare services at the grassroots level.
The ASHA workers demanded a minimum monthly salary of Rs 26,000. They also sought quality mobile phones, Rs 10 lakh health insurance coverage and uniforms.
Another major demand was that the recruitment of ASHA workers and Auxiliary Nurse Midwives (ANMs) should be carried out directly by the government without political interference.
The workers also demanded promotions to ANM posts for ASHA workers who have completed the required training. They appealed to the government to provide welfare schemes and benefits to all scheme workers.
The protesters urged the government to hold discussions with ASHA workers and take immediate steps to resolve their demands.
