AP to Borrow Another ₹21,800 Crore; Market Loans to Reach ₹51,463 Crore in the First Six Months

The Andhra Pradesh government is borrowing a lot of money. After raising ₹29,663 crore in the three months of the 2026-27 financial year the N. Chandrababu Naidu-led government now wants to borrow another ₹21,800 crore for the next three months. According to the Reserve Bank of Indias (RBI) borrowing calendar the state will get these funds through market loans between July and September.

The latest borrowing schedule has sparked talks about the states health and growing debt.

AP Governments Borrowing Plan for the Second Quarter

The RBIs borrowing schedule shows that the Andhra Pradesh government plans to raise ₹21,800 crore through market borrowings in July, August and September.

This means they will borrow around ₹7,266.66 crore per month.

The government will use these borrowings to pay for expenses implement welfare schemes and finance various administrative and developmental needs.

RBI Schedule: Dates and Borrowing Amounts

The RBIs borrowing calendar for the quarter of FY 2026-27 shows that Andhra Pradesh will raise funds in seven installments:

  • July 30 – ₹2,600 crore
  • August 14 – ₹3,800 crore
  • August 28 – ₹2,600 crore
  • September 11 – ₹3,800 crore
  • September 25 – ₹2,600 crore
  • September 8 – ₹3,800 crore
  • September 22 – ₹2,600 crore

The state government will get a total of ₹21,800 crore through market borrowings under this schedule.

First Borrowing to Begin Next Tuesday

The Andhra Pradesh government will raise its ** tranche of ₹2,600 crore next Tuesday**. The remaining borrowings will be raised through market auctions on the dates specified in the RBI schedule.

₹29,663 Crore Borrowed in Three Months; Another ₹21,800 Crore Planned

The state government has been borrowing a lot of money since the beginning of the financial year.

They have already borrowed ₹29,663 crore in the quarter and now plan to raise an additional ₹21,800 crore in the second quarter.

If the borrowing plan goes as scheduled Andhra Pradeshs market borrowings during the first six months of FY 2026-27 would reach approximately ₹51,463 crore.

Growing Debate Over Rising Debt Burden

Financial experts say the state needs to earn revenue and borrow less.

There is also criticism that the governments continued reliance on market loans could increase interest obligations and debt repayment pressures on the state.

The RBIs borrowing calendar shows that the Chandrababu Naidu government is continuing its strategy of large-scale market borrowings.

After borrowing ₹29,663 crore in the quarter the government now plans to raise another ₹21,800 crore between July and September. If implemented as scheduled Andhra Pradeshs total market borrowings, during the half of the financial year would reach ₹51,463 crore.
