Jagan Targets Amaravati Construction Costs
The YSR Congress Party chief, Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy said the Andhra Pradesh government is doing something wrong with the Amaravati capital construction project. He thinks there is a lot of corruption and people are being cheated. Jagan Mohan Reddy made these comments at a press conference at the partys office in Tadepalli. He accused Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu of turning the Amaravati project into a scam.
Jagan Mohan Reddy said the government has already spent a lot of money around ₹1,200 crore on buildings for the Assembly, High Court and Secretariat. Now they are planning to spend more money on permanent buildings. He thinks this is not fair and the contracts are being given to the old people.
“₹30,000 Per Square Foot Is Shocking”: Jagan
Jagan Mohan Reddy said the amount of money being spent on the buildings is very high. He thinks it is unbelievable. The government has spent ₹401 crore on designing the buildings. The total cost for five buildings is around ₹10,665 crore. Jagan Mohan Reddy compared this to similar projects where the cost was much lower, around ₹5,000 per square foot. But now the cost is around ₹20,427 per foot and with furniture and interiors it goes up to ₹30,000 per square foot.
He said even luxury buildings can be built at a cost. Jagan Mohan Reddy mentioned that the Telangana government built a Secretariat complex for around ₹615 crore. He asked why the Andhra Pradesh government needs to spend much money.
Allegations Over Amaravati Debt Burden
Jagan Mohan Reddy said the Amaravati project has put a burden of debt on Andhra Pradesh. The government has taken loans of around ₹47,387 crore for the project. They are also taking around ₹9,200 crore directly from the state treasury. He thinks the total cost of the project including roads and other facilities will be around ₹2 lakh crore. This is too much for the state to handle.
MAVIGUN Proposed as Alternative Capital Vision
Jagan Mohan Reddy said his party has proposed a plan for the capital called”MAVIGUN”. This plan includes infrastructure and planning. He said people liked the idea. The ruling party did not. Jagan Mohan Reddy accused Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and his ministers of making fun of the proposal because they do not like ideas.
“State Has Turned Into Jungle Raj”
Jagan Mohan Reddy said the Andhra Pradesh government is suppressing the voices of people who oppose them. He thinks the state has become like a jungle where might’s right. He criticized the governments record over the two years and said the only progress they have made is in cheating people.
Sharp Reaction to ‘Goddali Potu’ Political Attacks
Jagan Mohan Reddy responded to comments made by TDP leaders about his partys politics. He said his family has already suffered a lot to political violence. His grandfather, Y. S. Raja Reddy was. He asked if the people responsible were hiding in TDP offices. Jagan Mohan Reddy also mentioned the death of his father, Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy and his uncle, Y. S. Vivekananda Reddy.
Remarks on Vangaveeti Ranga Murder Controversy
Jagan Mohan Reddy brought up the murder of Vangaveeti Mohana Ranga. Said a senior leader had accused Chandrababu Naidu of being involved. He criticized the fact that some people named in the case’re still active in politics. Jagan Mohan Reddy concluded by criticizing Chandrababu Naidu. Said the people of Andhra Pradesh know which party is truly responsible for the problems, in the state.
