Amaravati Construction Works Blamed for Fuel Shortage Crisis in Andhra Pradesh

Diesel Diversion Allegations Trigger Political Storm

There is a problem in Andhra Pradesh. People are saying that the reason we do not have petrol and diesel is because the government is using it all for the Amaravati construction projects. Amaravati construction projects are getting the diesel that should be going to the people, farmers and transport workers.

The problem started when someone found a letter that Andhra Pradesh Civil Supplies Commissioner K. Kannababu wrote on April 24 2026. In this letter he asked the petrol companies to give Amaravati construction projects a lot of diesel 2 crore 75 lakh 66 thousand liters until July 2026. They want to get this diesel from the retail petrol pumps near Amaravati.

Retail Fuel Supply to Contractors Raises Questions

Normally big construction companies have to buy diesel from the oil companies and pay a higher price.. It seems like the Amaravati construction projects are getting diesel from the retail petrol pumps where it is cheaper.

This is a problem because the contractors might be making money, around ₹50 to ₹55 per liter which is not right. If they are really getting this diesel they could be making around ₹150 crore extra, which is a lot of money. This is why there is such an argument about this in Andhra Pradesh.

Central Petroleum Ministry Raises Objections

The Union Petroleum Ministry is also upset about this. They wrote a letter to the Andhra Pradesh government saying that giving diesel to Amaravati construction projects through retail outlets is against the rules.

The Central government says that retail petrol pumps are for cars and a little extra storage not for giving diesel to big construction projects. They are warning the state government not to do this

Farmers, Transport Sector and Aqua Industry Hit Hard

A lot of people in Andhra Pradesh are suffering because of this. Farmers in the Godavari districts could not get diesel for their harvesting machines when they needed it most. The people who take care of the shrimp ponds did not have diesel for the aerators so the shrimp were in danger.

The transport workers like auto drivers and lorry operators had to wait for a time to get diesel. This also meant that people did not get the things they needed on time which was very inconvenient.

Government Reportedly Withdraws the Orders

When the problem became too big the government took back their decision. Andhra Pradesh Civil Supplies Minister Nadendla Manohar said that they made a mistake by letting the contractors get diesel from the outlets. He said that they are not going to do this

Debate Over Amaravati Development Intensifies

Now people are arguing about whether it’s right to use diesel meant for the people to build Amaravati. Some people say that it is not fair to make the people suffer just to build one city.

The government is, in trouble because they have to explain why they did this. They have to tell the people if the hardships they faced were really necessary for Amaravati to be built quickly. Amaravati construction projects are a deal but the people of Andhra Pradesh are also important.
