Arnab Cyclone Crop Damage: When Will Konaseema Farmers Receive Compensation?

Arnab Cyclone Crop Damage: When Will Konaseema Farmers Receive Compensation?

Farmers in the Konaseema region of Andhra Pradesh have suffered heavy losses due to the impact of Cyclone Arnab. The cyclone hit just before the harvest, damaging crops and destroying farmers’ investments. With agriculture and horticulture fields affected, farmers are demanding immediate financial assistance from the state government.

Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has directed officials from the agriculture, horticulture and other departments to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the cyclone damage. The assessment will cover crop losses, livestock deaths, damaged houses, flood-affected areas, power supply disruptions, damaged roads and breaches in irrigation tanks.

Konaseema Farmers Fear Delays in Cyclone Compensation

Despite the government’s announcements, farmers are concerned about delays in receiving compensation. They allege that every cyclone is followed by damage assessments and official inspections, but financial assistance often takes a long time to reach affected farmers.

Farmers have also raised concerns over compensation for losses caused by Cyclone Montha in 2025. They fear that the same situation could repeat after Cyclone Arnab, leaving them struggling with mounting agricultural debts and financial difficulties.

Cyclone Montha Relief: Government Announces Funds

Following Cyclone Montha in 2025, the Andhra Pradesh government reportedly submitted a damage assessment report to the Centre seeking Rs 6,384 crore in compensation. However, the assistance announced by the Central Government in March 2026 amounted to only Rs 341.48 crore.

Separately, the state government announced the release of Rs 285 crore through Government Order (GO) No. 70 on June 30, 2026, towards Cyclone Montha-related losses.

However, allegations persist that the announced compensation has not reached all eligible farmers in full. This has raised questions about the gap between the estimated losses, funds sanctioned and the actual assistance received by affected farmers.

Questions Over Central and State Government Relief

The ruling coalition in Andhra Pradesh, which includes parties that are key partners in the Central Government, faces questions over the financial assistance secured from the Centre for the state’s cyclone-hit farmers.

The government needs to explain the significant difference between the Rs 6,384 crore sought by the state and the Rs 341.48 crore announced by the Centre. It should also disclose how many farmers have received the Rs 285 crore announced under the state relief package and how much compensation remains to be distributed.

Farmer groups argue that transparent information and timely relief are more important than public announcements. They want the government to publish clear details of the damage assessment and compensation distribution.

Farmers Demand Immediate Relief for Arnab Cyclone Crop Losses

Farmers affected by Cyclone Arnab need urgent financial support to recover from their losses. Agricultural investments made over an entire season are at risk, while damaged crops could further affect household incomes and repayment of farm loans.

Farmer organisations are demanding a transparent crop damage survey and prompt compensation for every eligible farmer. They have urged the government to avoid delays and announce a clear action plan with specific timelines for relief distribution.

The government must ensure that crop losses are properly recorded at the field level and that eligible beneficiaries receive the assistance they are entitled to.

Will the Government Deliver Timely Compensation?

The experience of Cyclone Montha has increased anxiety among farmers affected by Cyclone Arnab. They want assurances that the latest damage assessment will lead to actual financial assistance rather than remain limited to inspections, reviews and announcements.

Timely compensation is crucial for farmers who have lost crops and agricultural investments. The government’s response will be closely watched as affected families await support to rebuild their livelihoods.

The key question is whether the Andhra Pradesh government will deliver compensation promptly and transparently this time, ensuring that cyclone-hit farmers in Konaseema receive the relief they need.
