A serious controversy has emerged during the local body election nomination process in Andhra Pradesh, with YSRCP leaders alleging that TDP supporters attacked a nine-month pregnant woman candidate in Chapadu mandal of YSR Kadapa district. The incident reportedly took place when she was on her way to file her nomination for the Vedururu MPTC seat.
According to the allegations, the woman was stopped by a group of TDP supporters, who allegedly assaulted her and her relatives. The group also reportedly snatched and tore up her nomination papers, raising concerns about the safety of candidates during the local body elections.
Nine-Month Pregnant YSRCP Candidate Allegedly Attacked
Nandimandalam Prashanthi, a YSRCP candidate contesting for the Vedururu Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituency (MPTC) seat, was travelling to the nomination centre with her family members and relatives to submit her nomination papers.
However, she alleged that TDP supporters obstructed her way and physically attacked her group. Prashanthi, who is nine months pregnant, claimed that the attackers forcibly took her nomination papers and tore them into pieces.
The alleged incident has triggered political criticism, with YSRCP supporters questioning the conduct of the ruling party’s workers during the election nomination process.
YSRCP Questions Police Security at Nomination Centre
Prashanthi also expressed concern over the police response, alleging that officers failed to provide adequate security to candidates and their supporters near the nomination centre.
She claimed that the police remained passive while the incident took place. The allegations have raised questions about the arrangements made to ensure the safety of candidates filing nominations for local body elections.
The claims require verification by the relevant authorities, and the police response to the incident remains an important aspect of the matter.
Similar Obstruction Alleged in Other Chapadu Mandal Areas
YSRCP candidates have also alleged that party nominees seeking to file nominations for other MPTC seats in Chapadu mandal, including Nakkaladinne and Alladupalle, faced obstruction from TDP supporters.
According to the candidates, these incidents were part of an alleged attempt to prevent opposition candidates from submitting their nomination papers and participating in the local body elections.
YSRCP leaders have criticised the alleged incidents and accused the ruling party’s supporters of using intimidation to influence the election process.
YSRCP Demands Action Over Alleged Election Violence
The alleged attack on the pregnant candidate has intensified the political debate over law and order in Andhra Pradesh during the local body election process.
YSRCP leaders and supporters have called for attention from the authorities and the judiciary, demanding that candidates be allowed to file nominations without threats or physical obstruction.
The incident has highlighted concerns about candidate safety, police security at nomination centres, and the need to ensure a fair and peaceful election process. Further clarification from the police and other relevant authorities would help establish the facts surrounding the allegations.
