Nellore Corporation Elections: Jana Sena Gets 8 Seats — What Happened to Its 30% Demand?
The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and Jana Sena have reportedly reached a seat-sharing agreement for the upcoming Nellore Municipal Corporation elections in Andhra Pradesh. Talks involving Minister Narayana, Nellore Rural MLA Kotamreddy Sridhar Reddy, and Beeda Ravichandra with Jana Sena leaders are said to have ended successfully.
According to the reported agreement, Jana Sena has been allocated eight corporator seats out of the total 72 divisions in the Nellore Corporation. The allocation includes four seats in Nellore City and four in Nellore Rural.
MLA Kotamreddy Sridhar Reddy reportedly confirmed that Jana Sena has been allotted divisions 29, 30, 45 and 53 in the Nellore Rural constituency.
Jana Sena’s 30% Seat Demand
The seat-sharing agreement has become a topic of political discussion because Jana Sena leaders had initially demanded 30% of the seats. They had also indicated that the party would contest the elections independently if its demand was not met.
However, under the reported arrangement, Jana Sena has agreed to contest eight seats, which account for around 11.1% of the total 72 corporator positions.
Discontent Over Seat Allocation
The reduction from the initial 30% demand to around 11% has reportedly raised concerns among some Jana Sena leaders and party workers. Questions are being raised about whether the party has received an adequate share of seats in the alliance.
The agreement is significant for both TDP and Jana Sena as they prepare for the Nellore Corporation elections. The impact of the seat-sharing formula on Jana Sena’s political standing and the alliance’s electoral prospects remains to be seen.
The final outcome will depend on the candidates’ performance, local political dynamics and voter support across Nellore Corporation’s divisions.
