Vizag Hyperscale Data Center: CPI(M) Demands Implementation of High Court Orders

The CPI(M) Andhra Pradesh State Committee has demanded that the state government immediately implement the interim orders issued by the High Court concerning the Vizag Hyperscale Data Center project being developed in the Adavivaram and Mudasaralova areas of Visakhapatnam Rural Mandal.

The CPI(M) said that the High Court has made it clear that further project works would be undertaken at the project’s own risk until the final judgment is delivered. Against this backdrop, the party has urged the government to stop subsidies and incentives being extended to the data center project until the legal issues are resolved.

The party also highlighted the concerns of local residents who are opposing the construction of a major data center in a residential area and demanded that their views be taken into consideration before allowing further progress on the project.

CPI(M) Seeks Expert Panel on Environmental Impact

The CPI(M) has called for the immediate formation of a high-level expert committee to assess the potential impact of the Vizag Hyperscale Data Center on water resources, land and the environment.

The party demanded a comprehensive inquiry into alleged violations of environmental regulations and called for the committee’s findings to be made publicly available.

According to the CPI(M), several experts, prominent citizens and residents of Visakhapatnam have already raised concerns about the project’s environmental impact. It urged the state government to conduct a transparent and comprehensive environmental assessment before taking further decisions.

Concerns Over Land Acquisition and Police Action

The CPI(M) also raised concerns over the alleged use of police and government machinery against residents of villages whose lands are being affected by the project.

The party demanded the withdrawal of cases related to Simhachalam Devasthanam and sought full land rights for the residents of the Panchagramas.

It further urged the government to conduct Gram Sabhas in the affected villages, obtain the views of local residents and only then proceed with further action on the data center project.

The CPI(M) said that the government’s priority should be to ensure environmental protection, protect the land rights of local communities and comply with the High Court’s interim directions before proceeding with the Vizag Hyperscale Data Center project.
