Shocking Incident Sparks Outrage in Andhra Pradesh
What century are we living in? Whom are the speeches on law, women’s rights, and safety really meant for? These disturbing questions have resurfaced after a shocking incident in Guntur city came to light on Friday night.
A woman was allegedly stripped, assaulted, and publicly humiliated in Krishna Babu Colony following a dispute over a water pipeline. The incident, which reportedly occurred on Wednesday evening, has triggered widespread outrage across Andhra Pradesh after CCTV footage of the attack surfaced on social media.
Water Pipeline Dispute Turns Violent
According to reports, the victim has been residing in Krishna Babu Colony for nearly 15 years and had installed a motor pump to draw water through her household pipeline.
Recently, after a cement road was constructed in the area, local Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader Mallela Venkata Ramanamurthy allegedly filed a complaint with the municipal corporation seeking the removal of the motor connected to the pipeline.
When the woman approached him to discuss the issue, an argument reportedly broke out between them.
Police Complaint Allegedly Yielded No Immediate Help
The victim alleged that she was threatened during the argument. Following the incident, she and her family members reportedly approached the Nagarampalem Police Station to lodge a complaint.
However, according to the family, police personnel informed them that they were occupied with bandobast duties, following which they returned home.
Woman Allegedly Stripped and Assaulted in Public
Soon after, Mallela Venkata Ramanamurthy, along with another transgender woman, family members, and several others, allegedly arrived at the victim’s residence and attacked her.
The accused allegedly threw the woman to the ground and assaulted her. Family members who tried to intervene were also reportedly attacked.
In one of the most disturbing aspects of the incident, the woman was allegedly stripped in the middle of the road and publicly humiliated for nearly 10 minutes while being assaulted.
CCTV Footage Goes Viral
CCTV footage allegedly capturing the attack has gone viral on social media, leading to widespread condemnation and public anger.
The visuals have intensified calls for immediate legal action against all those involved in the incident.
Allegations of Settlement Attempts
Amid the controversy, reports suggest that some local TDP leaders are allegedly attempting to broker a compromise between the victim and the accused.
These reports have further fueled criticism, with many questioning attempts to settle such a serious case outside the legal process.
Women’s Groups Demand Strict Action
Local residents and women’s organizations have demanded stringent legal action against the accused.
They have also urged the Andhra Pradesh Home Minister and the State Women’s Commission to intervene immediately, ensure the victim receives justice, and initiate strict legal proceedings against those responsible.
Investigation Under Public Scrutiny
The incident has sparked intense public debate over women’s safety, police response, and accountability. With the CCTV footage widely circulating, there is growing pressure on authorities to conduct a fair and transparent investigation and take prompt action against all individuals found responsible.
