BCCI Plans Temporary Coaching Change
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is reportedly preparing to make an important coaching decision by giving India’s head coach, Gautam Gambhir, a short break from his duties. According to reports, former India batter VVS Laxman is likely to take charge as the head coach for India’s upcoming Zimbabwe tour and the Asian Games.
The move is said to be part of the BCCI’s workload management strategy, especially with several senior players also expected to be rested during this period.
VVS Laxman’s Experience Makes Him the Ideal Choice
VVS Laxman has previously served as India’s stand-in head coach on multiple occasions and has also played a key role as the head of the National Cricket Academy (NCA). His experience in nurturing young talent and guiding emerging players has earned him widespread appreciation.
With both the Zimbabwe tour and the Asian Games expected to feature young Indian squads, the BCCI is reportedly keen to utilize Laxman’s expertise in developing the next generation of cricketers.
Gambhir Likely to Get a Well-Deserved Break
Sources suggest that the BCCI believes it is the right time to provide Gautam Gambhir with a brief period of rest while senior players are also taking a break from international cricket.
As a result, Laxman is expected to oversee the Indian team for the Zimbabwe series and continue in the coaching role through the Asian Games before Gambhir resumes his responsibilities.

The BCCI has already announced India’s squad for the Zimbabwe tour. Shreyas Iyer has been named captain of the side, while the exclusion of Sanju Samson has surprised many cricket fans.
Instead, the selectors have handed an opportunity to young batter Vaibhav, highlighting the board’s continued focus on promoting emerging talent. The same youth-first approach is expected to be followed for the Asian Games squad as well.
