Police Stop Sugali Parvathi’s Wheelchair Yatra
Nine years after the death of Sugali Preethi, her mother Sugali Parvathi’s struggle for justice has once again come into focus. Tensions were reported in Kurnool after police stopped Parvathi from undertaking a wheelchair yatra from Kurnool to Amaravati.
Police reportedly served notices at her residence in advance, stating that the yatra had not been granted permission. When Parvathi and her supporters were preparing to begin the march, police again intervened and prevented them from proceeding. An argument reportedly broke out between police personnel and Parvathi’s relatives during the incident.
Mother Continues Fight for Justice
Sugali Parvathi has been fighting for justice for her daughter for several years. She has repeatedly urged successive governments to identify those responsible for Preethi’s death, ensure strict punishment for the accused and speed up the investigation.
With the intention of bringing the issue directly to the attention of the government and its senior leaders, Parvathi decided to undertake a wheelchair yatra from Kurnool to Amaravati.
Police Deny Permission Citing Law and Order
Police reportedly denied permission for the yatra, citing the possibility of law-and-order issues. Parvathi alleged that this was the second time she had been prevented from undertaking a yatra since the coalition government came to power.
She also recalled that she had earlier been placed under house arrest when she attempted to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and submit a representation seeking justice for her daughter.
Sugali Preethi Case: Nine Years of Waiting
Sugali Preethi, who was studying in Class 10 at a private school in Kurnool, died under suspicious circumstances in 2017. Since then, her family has been fighting for justice.
Even after nine years, the family says that justice has not been delivered. The prolonged delay in the case has continued to cause anguish among Preethi’s family members and supporters.
Parvathi Recalls Pawan Kalyan’s Earlier Promise
Parvathi has also recalled the earlier assurance given by Jana Sena Party chief Pawan Kalyan that justice would be ensured for the Sugali Preethi family.
She expressed disappointment that despite Pawan Kalyan now holding the position of Deputy Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, justice has not yet been delivered in her daughter’s case.
Questions are also being raised locally about why leaders who supported victims and their struggles while in opposition are now allegedly preventing such protests after coming to power.
YSRCP Claims About Previous Government’s Actions
YSRCP leaders claim that during the tenure of former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, efforts were made to hand over the Sugali Preethi case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), while financial assistance was also provided to the family by the government.
However, critics allege that after the coalition government came to power, there has not been sufficient progress in the case.
Sugali Preethi Case Back in Political Spotlight
With nine years having passed since Sugali Preethi’s death and her mother continuing her fight for justice, the case has once again become a subject of political discussion in Andhra Pradesh.
The police action against Parvathi’s proposed wheelchair yatra has further intensified the debate over the government’s response to the long-pending case and the family’s demand for justice.
