Jana Sena Party chief and Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan’s recent remarks about Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief Chandrababu Naidu have reportedly triggered fresh tensions within the ruling alliance. Pawan claimed that Jana Sena supporters stood by Naidu when he was arrested, while TDP supporters failed to come out in large numbers. He also urged the TDP to give Jana Sena adequate representation in the upcoming local body elections in Andhra Pradesh.
His comments have drawn sharp reactions from TDP supporters on social media, with party activists questioning his version of events and highlighting the role played by TDP cadres during Naidu’s arrest.
Controversy Over Chandrababu Naidu’s Arrest
Speaking at a recent event in the Rampachodavaram constituency, Pawan Kalyan recalled the events surrounding Chandrababu Naidu’s arrest. He said Jana Sena workers and women supporters took to the streets to express their solidarity with the TDP chief when he was arrested.
Pawan urged alliance leaders to recognise Jana Sena’s contribution and ensure that the party receives due importance in the upcoming local body elections. His remarks, however, have sparked criticism among TDP supporters, who believe that his statements overlook the efforts made by their party cadre.
TDP Supporters Question Pawan Kalyan’s Claims
TDP activists have taken to social media to challenge Pawan Kalyan’s statements. They argue that the TDP cadre played a significant role in protesting against Chandrababu Naidu’s arrest and that their efforts should not be underestimated.
Chandrababu Naidu was arrested on September 9, 2023. Pawan Kalyan visited Rajahmundry Central Jail on September 14 and extended his support to the TDP leader. TDP supporters point out that their party workers had already launched protests following the arrest, even before the TDP–Jana Sena alliance received clear political direction.
The disagreement has now developed into a public debate over the contributions of both parties during a politically sensitive period.
Local Body Elections Add to TDP–Jana Sena Alliance Tensions
The controversy comes at a time when political parties are preparing for the upcoming local body elections in Andhra Pradesh. Seat-sharing arrangements, demands for political representation and competition for influence within the alliance could make negotiations more complicated.
Jana Sena is seeking adequate representation in local elections, while TDP supporters insist that their party’s organisational strength and role in the alliance must also be recognised.
Political observers believe that public disagreements between alliance leaders and supporters could create additional challenges for the ruling coalition if they are not handled carefully.
Will Pawan Kalyan’s Remarks Affect the TDP–Jana Sena Alliance?
The latest controversy has highlighted differences between the two parties over political credit, representation and electoral strategy. While both parties remain partners in the ruling alliance, disagreements over past events and future seat-sharing arrangements could affect their coordination at the local level.
Whether the dispute will remain limited to social media exchanges or influence negotiations for the upcoming local body elections remains to be seen. The way TDP and Jana Sena leaders respond to the controversy could play an important role in maintaining unity within the alliance.
