BRS Working President K. T. Rama Rao (KTR) has stated that no individual is above the Indian Constitution and that no one has the authority to take away a citizen’s right to vote. Accusing certain authorities of acting against constitutional principles, KTR demanded that Gyanesh Kumar step down from his responsibilities immediately.
KTR shared his views on social media platform X, raising concerns over alleged irregularities in the voter list revision process and calling for judicial intervention.
Systems Are More Important Than Individuals, Says KTR
KTR said that India has remained strong despite facing numerous challenges and witnessing several individuals come and go over the years. He questioned why so much effort was being made to protect one individual at the expense of established institutions.
He also asked how one person could be considered more important than the fundamental rights of 1.4 billion Indians.
According to KTR, those attempting to bypass constitutional principles and create parallel systems should recognise that such practices have no place in a democratic country. He stressed that institutions must function in accordance with the Constitution rather than serve the interests of individuals.
KTR Raises Concerns Over Alleged Voter List Irregularities
The BRS leader alleged that serious irregularities and procedural lapses had occurred during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. He urged the Supreme Court of India to intervene immediately and examine the matter.
KTR called on the Supreme Court to take suo motu cognisance of the issue and order an independent investigation led by a sitting judge.
He maintained that protecting the voting rights of every eligible citizen is essential to safeguarding democracy. He also stressed that the rights guaranteed by the Indian Constitution must not be undermined.
KTR Calls for Protection of Citizens’ Voting Rights
Reiterating the importance of constitutional values, KTR said that every citizen’s right to vote must be protected. He called for accountability and a transparent electoral process to ensure that eligible voters are not deprived of their democratic rights.
His remarks have brought renewed attention to the debate over voter list revisions, alleged electoral irregularities and the role of constitutional institutions in protecting citizens’ fundamental rights.
The allegations and demands raised by KTR underline the need for a fair and transparent process. Any alleged irregularities would need to be examined by the appropriate authorities in accordance with the law.
