Chandrababu’s Drama in the Name of BC Reservations – YSRCP

The Andhra Pradesh government has decided to approach the Supreme Court against the High Court verdict striking down the government orders providing 34 percent reservation for BCs in local body elections.

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has reportedly directed officials to file a petition in the Supreme Court before Monday. The move comes after the High Court invalidated the government orders related to the 34 percent BC reservation in Andhra Pradesh local body elections.

The government’s decision is aimed at challenging the legal basis of the High Court ruling and seeking clarity on the implementation of BC reservations in local elections.

YSRCP Questions 34% BC Reservation Move

YSRCP leaders have strongly reacted to the High Court verdict and the state government’s decision to approach the Supreme Court.

Former ministers Chelluboyina Venu Gopala Krishna, Ushashri Charan, Botsa Satyanarayana and Dharmana Prasada Rao alleged that the government used the government orders on BC reservations for political publicity despite being aware of the legal limitations surrounding reservations.

The YSRCP leaders argued that if the government wants to provide 34 percent political reservation for BCs, it should find a legally sustainable solution rather than relying only on government orders.

Supreme Court’s 50% Reservation Limit in Focus

The dispute over BC reservations in Andhra Pradesh local body elections is also linked to the broader legal issue surrounding the 50 percent ceiling on reservations.

YSRCP leaders questioned how the state government plans to implement 34 percent BC reservations while dealing with the legal restrictions arising from the Supreme Court’s earlier rulings on reservation limits.

They also called on the state government to seek a permanent solution from the Centre, pointing out that the NDA is in power at the Centre while the coalition government is ruling Andhra Pradesh.

YSRCP Highlights Its Record on BC Representation

YSRCP leaders also highlighted what they described as steps taken during the previous YSRCP government to increase political representation for BC communities.

They cited representation for BCs in positions such as mayors, Zilla Parishad chairpersons, municipal chairpersons, MPPs, MLCs, Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha members.

The leaders also referred to the creation of a dedicated department for BCs and special funding for traditional occupations and communities.

BC Reservation Case to Move to Supreme Court

The Supreme Court challenge is now expected to become a key legal development in the debate over 34 percent BC reservation in Andhra Pradesh local body elections. The outcome will have implications for how BC political reservations are structured and implemented in the state.
