Alla Nani Dies of Heart Attack.. Former Deputy Chief Minister Passes Away

Eluru, Sep 16: Former Andhra Pradesh Minister and Deputy Chief Minister Alla Kali Krishna Srinivas, popularly known as Alla Nani, died of a heart attack. He was 56. His sudden demise has cast a pall of gloom over political circles in Eluru and West Godavari district.

Alla Nani began his political journey with the Congress Party and later joined the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP), where he emerged as a key leader. During Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s tenure as Chief Minister, he served as the Minister for Health and Family Welfare and also as Deputy Chief Minister.

Early Life and Education

Alla Nani was born on December 30, 1969, in Eluru to Alla Suryachandra Rao and Nagamani.

He completed his Class 10 education at KP High School in Eluru in 1985 and his Intermediate at Sir C.R. Reddy College in 1988. He later enrolled in a B.Com course at Andhra University, but discontinued his studies midway.

Entry into Politics

Alla Nani contested the 1994 Assembly elections as an independent candidate. In 1999, he contested the Eluru Assembly constituency on a Congress ticket but was defeated.

His political fortunes changed in 2004, when he won the Eluru Assembly seat as a Congress candidate and was elected as an MLA for the first time. He retained the seat in the 2009 elections.

In 2013, Alla Nani resigned from the Congress and joined the YSR Congress Party.

Rise in the YSRCP

Although Alla Nani lost the 2014 Assembly elections, the YSRCP subsequently entrusted him with important responsibilities. He was appointed president of the erstwhile West Godavari district unit of the party and was also given an opportunity to serve as an MLC.

He remained active in party affairs and gradually strengthened his position within the YSRCP.

Health Minister and Deputy Chief Minister

In the 2019 Assembly elections, Alla Nani won the Eluru constituency for the third time.

Following the victory, then Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy inducted him into the state Cabinet and entrusted him with the Health and Family Welfare portfolio, along with the post of Deputy Chief Minister.

Even after stepping down from the ministerial position, Alla Nani continued to play an important role in the party in his capacity as a senior leader.

Resignation from YSRCP and Joining TDP

Following the YSRCP’s defeat in the 2024 Assembly elections, Alla Nani stayed away from several party activities.

He initially wrote to Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, stating that he was resigning from all party posts. He later announced his resignation from the primary membership of the YSRCP as well.

In February 2025, Alla Nani joined the Telugu Desam Party (TDP). He formally joined the party in the presence of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu at the Chief Minister’s residence in Undavalli.

Final Phase of Political Career

After joining the TDP, there was a view among some of his followers that Alla Nani did not receive significant political prominence within the party.

Against this backdrop, his sudden death has once again brought attention to his long political career in Eluru, his rise from the Congress to the YSRCP, his tenure as Health Minister and Deputy Chief Minister, and the political developments surrounding him in the final phase of his career.

Alla Nani’s unexpected demise has left political leaders, supporters and followers in Eluru mourning.
