The expectations surrounding Varanasi, the upcoming pan-India film featuring Mahesh Babu and directed by S. S. Rajamouli, are growing with each passing day. Amid the increasing buzz, reports are circulating that the film’s Telugu theatrical rights have been finalised for around ₹350 crore. However, there has been no official confirmation from the filmmakers regarding the deal so far.
Dil Raju and Mythri Movie Makers Show Interest
According to discussions in film circles, prominent producer Dil Raju and leading production house Mythri Movie Makers are reportedly interested in acquiring the Telugu rights of Varanasi.
The combination of Mahesh Babu’s massive stardom and Rajamouli’s brand value has reportedly created huge demand for the film’s Telugu theatrical rights. Industry discussions suggest that the actual value of the rights could potentially be higher than the currently circulated figure of ₹350 crore.
Massive Budget of Around ₹1,400 Crore
Varanasi is reportedly being made on a massive budget of nearly ₹1,400 crore. The film is being planned on an international scale, with expectations of a major pan-India and global theatrical release.
Apart from the Telugu theatrical rights, the film is also expected to generate significant business through its other-language theatrical rights, digital streaming rights and satellite rights.
Worldwide Release on April 7, 2027
Varanasi is scheduled to have a worldwide theatrical release on April 7, 2027. With the film already generating enormous business buzz well ahead of its release, all eyes are now on whether it will set new records in the pre-release business.
The coming months are expected to reveal the actual value of the film’s theatrical and non-theatrical rights, as well as whether Varanasi can create new benchmarks in the Indian film industry.
