Candidates Seek Immediate Filling of Vacancies
Police job aspirants staged a protest rally in Kakinada, demanding the immediate filling of vacant police posts across Andhra Pradesh and an increase in the upper age limit for police recruitment to 35 years.
After the rally, the candidates submitted a memorandum to the District Collector, urging the government to take immediate action on their demands.
20,000 Police Posts Reportedly Vacant
The aspirants said that around 20,000 posts in the police department are currently vacant. They demanded that the government issue a notification immediately to fill at least 10,000 vacancies.
They expressed concern that thousands of candidates who have been preparing for police recruitment for several years are now at risk of losing their opportunity because of the age limit.
No Fresh Notification Since 2022
The candidates pointed out that no fresh notification for police recruitment has been issued since 2022. As a result, many aspirants who have spent years preparing for competitive examinations are nearing or crossing the prescribed age limit.
They demanded that the government consider increasing the upper age limit to 35 years to provide an opportunity to eligible unemployed youth who have been waiting for recruitment notifications.
Student and Unemployed Youth JAC Meets Jagan
The same demands were also raised by representatives of the AP Students, Unemployed and Youth JAC, who met YSRCP president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy in Tadepalli on August 7 and submitted a memorandum.
According to the JAC representatives, Jagan assured them that he would stand by unemployed youth and take up the issues of police recruitment and the age-limit extension with the government.
Aspirants Point to Staff Shortage in Police Department
The candidates said that the continued delay in recruitment is causing serious losses to unemployed youth. While job opportunities are slipping away because of the delay, the police department is also continuing to face a shortage of personnel, they pointed out.
They urged the government to take an immediate decision on filling the vacant posts and issue the recruitment notification without further delay.
Demand for Immediate Government Action
The aspirants appealed to the government to address both issues—filling vacant police posts and increasing the upper age limit to 35 years—at the earliest.
They warned that further delay would put thousands of unemployed candidates at greater disadvantage and demanded immediate steps to provide them with recruitment opportunities.
