Amaravati, which coalition leaders have repeatedly claimed is being developed as a world-class capital, has come under scrutiny from within the ruling Telugu Desam Party (TDP) itself. Tadikonda MLA Tenali Sravan Kumar raised serious concerns in the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly over the lack of basic infrastructure and civic amenities in the 29 villages of the Amaravati capital region.
During the ongoing Assembly session, Sravan Kumar highlighted several issues faced by residents, including drinking water shortages, poor road connectivity and inadequate transportation facilities. He urged the government to take immediate steps to address the problems affecting people living in the capital villages.
Basic Amenities Missing in Amaravati Villages
Speaking in the Assembly, the TDP MLA said residents of the 29 villages in the Amaravati capital region have been facing severe difficulties due to the lack of basic facilities.
He pointed out that development activities appear to be largely concentrated on layouts created on lands surrendered by farmers as part of the land pooling process. However, he said, the local villagers who have been living in the area for several years are still struggling without adequate infrastructure and essential amenities.
Drinking Water Supply Remains a Major Concern
Sravan Kumar particularly highlighted the deteriorating drinking water supply system in the capital villages. According to him, residents are currently receiving drinking water only once every three to four days.
He expressed concern that such irregular water supply is causing serious hardship to ordinary residents and called for immediate measures to ensure a reliable and regular drinking water system across all the villages.
Poor Road Connectivity to Key Capital Locations
The MLA also raised concerns over the lack of proper trunk roads in the Amaravati region. He said inadequate road infrastructure is creating significant difficulties for residents and affecting daily transportation.
He specifically pointed out that even Venkatapalem village, where key government institutions such as the Assembly and Secretariat are located, lacks adequate transport connectivity.
Demand for Equal Development of All Villages
Sravan Kumar urged the government to ensure that every village covered under the Amaravati master plan is developed equally. He called for immediate action to provide basic infrastructure, drinking water facilities, roads and better transportation connectivity to the residents.
The concerns raised by a TDP MLA himself have drawn attention because they highlight a significant gap between the government’s claims of developing Amaravati as a world-class capital and the ground realities faced by people living in its villages.
The issue has also triggered renewed discussion over whether development in the Amaravati capital region is reaching ordinary residents equally or remains concentrated in selected areas.
