Nagababu Gets Key Post with Cabinet Rank
More than a year and a half after Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu reportedly gave an assurance that Konidela Nagendra Rao (Nagababu) would be inducted into the Andhra Pradesh Cabinet, the senior Jana Sena leader has now been given a key position with Cabinet rank. The development has triggered fresh political discussions in Andhra Pradesh.
The Andhra Pradesh Environment and Forest Department has issued orders constituting executive bodies under the AP-GREEN programme. As part of the arrangements, Konidela Nagendra Rao, a member of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council, has been nominated as the Chairperson of the AP-GREEN Executive Committee.
The government order specifically states that the post will carry Cabinet rank.
Political Significance of the Appointment
The appointment has gained political importance because of Nagababu’s earlier expectation of a ministerial position. It was previously reported that Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu had given a letter assuring that Nagababu would be inducted into his Council of Ministers. However, even after more than one and a half years, no such decision has been announced.
Against this backdrop, the decision to appoint Nagababu as Chairperson of the AP-GREEN Executive Committee, which comes under the portfolio handled by Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, has attracted considerable attention.
Pawan Kalyan’s Role Under Discussion
The appointment has led to speculation over whether Pawan Kalyan played a key role in creating an alternative position for his elder brother.
Political circles are questioning whether the move was intended to provide Nagababu with a significant constitutional position and Cabinet status after the delay in his induction into the State Cabinet.
At the same time, another view is that the appointment could be part of broader political adjustments within the coalition government.
Questions Over TDP-Jana Sena Dynamics
The development comes at a time when discussions about differences between the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and Jana Sena Party have been gaining attention.
Against this backdrop, Nagababu’s appointment with Cabinet rank has added another layer to the political debate.
Questions are now being raised over whether Pawan Kalyan decided not to wait any longer for a ministerial berth for Nagababu, or whether the new position was created as part of the coalition’s political and administrative arrangements.
For now, the appointment has become a significant talking point in Andhra Pradesh politics, particularly regarding the relationship between the TDP and Jana Sena within the coalition government.
