The alliance between the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and the Jana Sena Party may appear strong at the political level, but differences between the two parties are reportedly continuing at the grassroots level. Political circles have been discussing how the two parties came together primarily to counter YS Jagan Mohan Reddy as a political force. However, tensions are said to persist among lower-level leaders and cadres over positions, contracts and seat-sharing for the upcoming local body elections.
Controversy Erupts Over Social Media Posts
The latest controversy reportedly began on social media over a cinema-related issue involving the son of Jana Sena MLC Nagababu. Allegations that senior NTR was targeted and trolled in connection with the controversy have intensified the dispute.
On one side, some TDP supporters reportedly targeted megastar Chiranjeevi on social media. On the other, allegations emerged that certain Jana Sena social media activists made objectionable and abusive comments against TDP founder and former Chief Minister Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao (NTR).
TDP Cadre Questions Leadership’s Silence
The alleged comments against NTR have reportedly angered sections of the TDP cadre. Some Telugu Desam supporters are said to have expressed dissatisfaction on social media, questioning why the party leadership has not responded strongly when its founder himself was allegedly subjected to such remarks.
Meanwhile, the verbal battle between supporters of the TDP and Jana Sena on social media is reportedly becoming increasingly intense.
Coalition Social Media Coordination Committee Steps In
Against this backdrop, the coalition’s Social Media Coordination Committee is reportedly said to have stepped in. The committee is understood to have issued an appeal asking supporters of both parties to refrain from engaging in personal attacks and abusive exchanges on social media.
The committee also reportedly urged the cadres of both parties to maintain coordination and preserve the political understanding between the TDP and Jana Sena.
Why No Action Against Those Making Personal Attacks?
The developments have triggered a broader political debate. Although the TDP and Jana Sena depend on each other for political reasons, questions are being raised over why both parties appear reluctant to take action against individuals who allegedly engage in personal attacks against prominent figures such as Chiranjeevi and NTR.
Political observers are questioning whether party leaderships should not take responsibility for controlling those involved in character assassination and abusive social media campaigns.
Leadership Faces Questions Over Cadre’s Conduct
There is also a growing argument that merely asking party supporters to maintain restraint may not be enough. Strong disciplinary action against those involved in abusive campaigns could send a clear message that the party leadership does not support such behaviour.
The controversy has also raised questions over whether it is appropriate for supporters of two allied parties to target each other’s families and prominent film personalities for political or social media battles.

While the TDP–Jana Sena alliance continues to remain politically important, the latest social media controversy has once again highlighted the challenges involved in maintaining unity between two parties with separate leaderships, cadres and political interests.
The key question now is whether the leadership of both parties will take concrete steps to prevent personal attacks and ensure that differences between their supporters do not damage the alliance at the grassroots level.
