Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan has once again become the center of political discussion in Andhra Pradesh after remaining absent from yet another Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu at the State Secretariat. His absence marks the third consecutive Cabinet meeting that he has skipped, raising fresh questions in political circles.
Third Consecutive Absence Raises Eyebrows
This is not the first time Pawan Kalyan has stayed away from key government meetings. He had also missed the previous two Cabinet meetings. In addition, since the coalition government assumed office, he has reportedly been absent from several Collectors’ Conferences and other official government review meetings.
On a few earlier occasions, Pawan Kalyan attended Cabinet meetings but left before they concluded. Since then, discussions have continued over whether he has been deliberately distancing himself from Cabinet deliberations and official reviews chaired by Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu. Notably, he has remained absent from many Cabinet meetings held since the beginning of 2026.
Active During Prime Minister Modi’s Visit
Interestingly, Pawan Kalyan actively participated during the recent visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Andhra Pradesh. However, his repeated absence from state government review meetings and Cabinet sessions has fueled speculation about whether there are any internal differences within the ruling coalition government.
His absence from three consecutive Cabinet meetings has now become a major topic of political debate across the state.
Political Analysts See Another Perspective
Political observers believe there could be another angle behind these repeated absences.
The Andhra Pradesh Cabinet plays a crucial role in approving major policy decisions, legislative amendments, large-scale infrastructure projects, land allocations, administrative reforms, and other significant governance matters. Several recent government decisions have already attracted criticism from opposition parties.
Among the issues drawing attention are allegations regarding the allocation of valuable government land at lower prices, the use of public assets under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, and the state’s new liquor policy. Opposition parties have raised several allegations concerning these decisions.
Is Pawan Avoiding Future Controversies?
Against this backdrop, political discussions have emerged over whether Pawan Kalyan is intentionally distancing himself from Cabinet decisions that could later become controversial.
Some political observers speculate that he may be taking precautionary measures to ensure that his name is not directly associated with decisions that could face legal scrutiny or political controversy in the future. There is also discussion over whether, in the event of a change in government, his absence from such Cabinet meetings could provide him with political or legal insulation from contentious decisions.
These, however, remain matters of political speculation, and no official evidence has been presented to support such claims.
Demand for an Official Explanation
The repeated absence of the Deputy Chief Minister from Cabinet meetings has led to increasing demands for clarity. Political observers and sections of the public argue that both the Andhra Pradesh Government and the Jana Sena Party should provide an official explanation regarding the reasons behind his continued absence.
As a key partner in the coalition government and the Deputy Chief Minister, Pawan Kalyan has a significant role in the state’s governance. Questions are therefore being raised about why he has not been participating in Cabinet meetings where important administrative and policy decisions are made.
Until an official clarification is issued by either the government or the Jana Sena Party, the reasons behind his repeated absence are likely to remain a subject of political debate and public discussion.
