Jagan Interacts with Tobacco Farmers in East Godavari
YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy visited Devarapalli in East Godavari district and interacted with tobacco farmers to understand their problems firsthand. During his visit to the tobacco purchase centre, Jagan held a direct interaction with farmers and later addressed the media, expressing serious concern over the condition of farmers across Andhra Pradesh.
Jagan Accuses Chandrababu Government of Neglecting Farmers
Speaking to the media, Jagan alleged that farmers have been facing severe hardships under the Chandrababu Naidu-led coalition government. He criticized the government, stating that destructive conditions have emerged not only in agriculture but also in education, healthcare, and industrial sectors.
Jagan further alleged that people questioning the government are being targeted with illegal cases and arrests. He claimed that in the 27 months of coalition rule, farmers have not received remunerative prices for their produce and many are struggling financially.
Tobacco Prices Declined, Farmers Facing Losses: Jagan
Highlighting the problems of tobacco farmers, Jagan said that during the YSRCP government’s tenure, tobacco prices reached up to ₹289 per kilogram, but the price has now fallen to around ₹236 per kilogram.
He alleged that the coalition government has purchased only 21% of the tobacco crop, leaving farmers in distress. Jagan also criticized the government over the death of a farmer named Venkateswara Rao, who allegedly died by suicide due to lack of remunerative prices, claiming that the government failed to extend support to the affected family.
Criticism Over Farmer Welfare Schemes
Jagan claimed that the previous YSRCP government provided zero-interest loans up to ₹1 lakh to farmers, but alleged that the scheme has now been discontinued.
He also accused the present government of reducing assistance under the Rythu Bharosa scheme. According to Jagan, farmers are suffering because of alleged compromises made by the government with middlemen.
He assured farmers that if YSRCP returns to power, the party would stand by farmers and strengthen support systems for the agriculture sector.
Tobacco Farmers Explain Their Problems
During the interaction, tobacco farmers shared their difficulties with Jagan. They said that after the coalition government came to power, they have been facing heavy losses due to the lack of proper prices.
Farmers stated that they are investing nearly ₹3 lakh per acre but are unable to earn profits. They also complained that even low-grade tobacco is not being purchased, causing additional financial pressure.
They expressed concern that rising interest burdens on agricultural loans are pushing many farmers towards extreme distress.
Strong Response to Jagan’s Devarapalli Visit
Jagan’s visit to Devarapalli received a significant response from local people. A large number of Gen Z youth, students, and party workers participated in the programme and welcomed him enthusiastically.
Supporters gathered along the route with party flags and placards, while flowers were showered at several locations to welcome Jagan. Large crowds from nearby villages and towns created a festive atmosphere in Devarapalli.
Participation of Gen Z Youth Draws Political Attention
At a time when youth support is becoming increasingly important in politics, the large participation of Gen Z youth during Jagan’s visit has become a topic of discussion among political circles.
Jagan greeted the people gathered during the programme and thanked the youth and supporters for their participation. YSRCP leaders stated that the visit has boosted enthusiasm among party cadres and strengthened their confidence ahead of future political developments.
