Tension on Tirumala Hills Over Hanuman Idol Theft Case
A major development has reportedly taken place in the investigation into the theft of a small idol of Lord Hanuman at Tirumala Hills. The incident, which created widespread concern among devotees, involved the disappearance of a Hanuman idol located at the 7th Mile point on the first ghat road leading to Tirumala.
According to investigation details, police have reportedly identified the accused as a person with a political background.
TDP Leader Identified as Accused
As per the investigation, the accused has been identified as Potnuru Yashwanth, a resident of T. Nagarlapalem village in Bheemili constituency of Visakhapatnam district.
Yashwanth is reportedly associated with the Telugu Desam Party (TDP). The case gained further political attention after photographs of Yashwanth with several senior TDP leaders surfaced.
Reports suggest that he had close links with key party figures, including Nara Lokesh and Ganta Srinivasa Rao. These associations have increased the political significance surrounding the case.
Previous Temple Controversies Come Back Into Focus
Following the latest developments, several earlier incidents involving temple-related controversies have once again become a topic of discussion.
One such incident was the removal of the Nandi idol at Paleswara Swamy Temple in Santabommali mandal of Tekkali region. At the time, allegations were made that local Telugu Desam leaders were involved, with claims that CCTV footage helped identify those responsible.
Ramatheertham Idol Destruction Case Sparks Debate
Another incident being recalled is the Ramatheertham Temple Lord Rama idol destruction case.
At that time, the case created political controversy after allegations emerged that a person who was named as A2 accused in the case received financial assistance of ₹5 lakh from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund after the coalition government came to power.

Rajahmundry Temple Incident Also Recalled
Similarly, allegations were earlier made against a former TNTUC leader in connection with an incident in Rajahmundry, where it was claimed that money was offered to a priest to damage a Subrahmanya Swamy idol.
According to the allegations, an amount of ₹30,000 was offered for carrying out the act, leading to further controversy at the time.
