Women’s Safety Has Deteriorated Under Alliance Rule: Varudu Kalyani
YSRCP Women’s Wing State President and MLC Varudu Kalyani launched a sharp attack on the Andhra Pradesh alliance government, alleging that women have become increasingly unsafe since the coalition assumed power. She claimed that a series of crimes against women had tarnished the state’s reputation across the country.
Referring to recent incidents in Guntur, Kadapa, and Kavali, Kalyani said the brutal attacks on women had brought shame to society. Speaking to the media, she strongly condemned the recent incident in Guntur.
Home Minister Must Resign
Kalyani criticized Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha, alleging that despite repeated attacks on women, she had failed even to visit or console the victims.
She accused the Home Minister of completely failing to maintain law and order and ensure women’s safety, demanding her immediate resignation from the post.
“Not Ustaad Bhagat Singh, But a Fake Bhagat Singh”
Targeting Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, Kalyani recalled his election promises of introducing stricter laws for women’s protection if voted to power.
She alleged that Pawan Kalyan’s silence over the Guntur incident amounted to supporting the crime.
“Pawan Kalyan is not Ustaad Bhagat Singh but merely a Fake Bhagat Singh. He lacks the courage to question Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and therefore remains silent,” she alleged.
Reverse Cases Against Victims; Women’s Commission Criticized
Kalyani alleged that leaders of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and Jana Sena Party were involved in several incidents involving crimes against women.
She claimed that despite allegations that Arava Sridhar had forced a victim to undergo multiple abortions, the Deputy Chief Minister had remained silent. She also alleged that Guntur East MLA Naseer Ahmed behaved inappropriately with a woman during a video call.
According to her, instead of taking action against ruling party leaders, the government was filing false cases against the victims themselves.
Questions Over Jetwani Case and CID Investigation
Referring to the Jetwani case, Kalyani questioned why police officers who allegedly used special flights during the investigation were not acting with the same urgency when ordinary women faced injustice in the state.
She also criticized the CID charge sheet, claiming that it portrayed Jetwani herself as the accused despite the controversy surrounding the case.
Women’s Commission’s Response Draws Criticism
Kalyani strongly criticized the Chairperson of the Andhra Pradesh Women’s Commission over her response to the Guntur incident.
She alleged that instead of focusing on punishing the person accused of publicly humiliating a woman, the Chairperson questioned how the CCTV footage of the incident had become public.
Concluding her remarks, Kalyani said the alliance government had failed to protect the dignity and safety of women. She warned that the people of Andhra Pradesh would hold Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, and the coalition government accountable in the public arena.
