Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Deepke was arrested by Delhi Police while leading thousands of young protesters towards Parliament under the banner of the “Chalo Sansad” march. The protest began after Deepke concluded his indefinite hunger strike at Jantar Mantar and marched towards Parliament with supporters. His detention triggered widespread tension in the national capital.
Police Crack Down on Protesters
Delhi Police had deployed massive security around the Parliament complex and stopped the protesters from advancing. Despite heavy rain, thousands of youths continued their march, prompting police to resort to a lathi charge and use tear gas to disperse the crowd. Several people were reportedly injured during clashes between protesters and security personnel, leaving key areas of Delhi under heightened tension.
Protest Sparks Heated Debate in Parliament
The impact of the CJP protest was felt inside Parliament as well. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge strongly condemned the police action against students and youth while speaking in the Rajya Sabha. Heated exchanges between the ruling alliance and opposition members disrupted proceedings, forcing both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha to be adjourned until the following day.
Government Holds Emergency Talks
Amid escalating tensions, the Central Government initiated urgent measures to prevent the situation from worsening. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, along with two other Union ministers, held an emergency meeting in Parliament to discuss the key demands raised by the protesters.
At the same time, a delegation of the Cockroach Janata Party met BJP National President J.P. Nadda to hold discussions on behalf of the government. Authorities also deployed additional paramilitary forces across Delhi to maintain law and order and prevent any untoward incidents.
