Jagan Condemns Brutal Attack on Woman in Guntur
Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy strongly condemned the alleged assault on a woman in Guntur, where she was reportedly stripped and attacked. Jagan alleged that a TDP leader was involved in the incident and described it as a shameful act that reflects the complete breakdown of law and order in the state.
He said the incident was not only an attack on an individual woman but also a blot on humanity and a clear indication of the government’s failure to ensure public safety.
Allegation of Cover-Up by the Government
Jagan accused the state government of attempting to suppress the incident for nearly three days. According to him, the authorities acted only after videos related to the assault went viral on social media, triggering widespread public outrage.
He criticized the Chandrababu Naidu-led government for taking action only after facing public pressure, calling the delayed response unacceptable.
“Police Should Have Acted Immediately”
The former Chief Minister stated that the police should have acted promptly when the victim first approached them with a complaint. He argued that immediate intervention could have prevented the situation from escalating into such a horrific incident.
Instead of trying to suppress the circulation of videos, the government should have focused on ensuring immediate justice for the victim, he said.
Questions Role of Police
Jagan questioned the functioning of police stations in the state, asking what purpose they serve if victims are not provided timely protection and justice.
He alleged that instead of supporting the victim, officials attempted to settle the matter informally, which he described as deeply unfortunate. Such an approach, he said, undermines public confidence in the justice system.
Raises Concerns Over Women’s Safety
Expressing concern over women’s safety in Andhra Pradesh, Jagan claimed that women no longer feel secure in the state. He questioned the government’s repeated claims about ensuring women’s protection and accused it of failing in its responsibility.
Criticism of Government’s Governance Claims
Concluding his remarks, Jagan questioned whether this was the “good governance” promised by Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu. He alleged that the government had completely failed to protect women and maintain law and order, demanding greater accountability in handling crimes against women.
